Chapter 4 - Desperation.

Hynek, after placing Rozina down on the floor, realized the pain in his body. The guards were caught off guard, otherwise, he would have been done for. His thigh and arm were bleeding with sword wounds, and he could do nothing about it for now.

Hynek, after placing Rozina on the ground, slowly walked to the door. He wanted to be certain no more of these guys came back, otherwise, he and Rozina would die for sure.

"Uuuuu! Eek!"

Rozina was crying constantly, and soon, she collapsed on the damp floor. Hynek tried to check on her, but his body ached so much that he needed to stop for a second and then came closer to her. She fell unconscious and was not making any more noises.

"Sigh."

Hynek sighed hard, he can't panic now, he has no energy for it. He sat on the nearby bench, which was half broken, he wanted to think clearly, plan what he needs to do next, and what will happen from now on.

She's going to be a dead weight, I have to accept that fact. The silver mining village with guards might be useful, but the bastard on horseback did say something about Hungarian savages, and that bright light from before didn't look too good, that direction is not worth it.

Hynek was a very good listener and talked less from his childhood and he could always remember important details in a conversation or even if he heard it once.

Alone I can't do horse shit right now, let's patch myself up first.

Hynek got up and first checked out the first guard he killed, he was wearing some kind of trousers that looked good and clean, and also it was not that bloody because he was barely wearing it when he died from Hynek's Axe attack.

He ripped the trouser and bandaged his wounds first so that he wouldn't lose blood anymore, then grabbed the long sword from the side of the wall.

This might be the weapon of the first guard who died first.

The sword was sheathed, and Hynek pulled it out from it's sheath. The cold, silvery glow made him smile a little, and then he searched for any food that was left, and he found some pieces of smoked jerky. He stuffed it in his waist bag that he used to carry water and food sometimes in the forest.

I can't go to that mining village. I killed two guards, and they won't be happy about it. They might just hand me over to the one who's guard they have been to get money. Nobles are a pathetic bunch. I have to escape with Aunt Rozina.

Hynek, thinking this grabbed a leather water skin which was full and then turned off the torch that was lighting up the pantry, he don't want to grab attention, after thinking things through, he tied the sword to his waist and wanted to pull Rozina up in his arms, but he heard clamoring noises coming towards him, someone was yelling outside.

Hynek quietly sat down on the ground. Whoever they might be, he had to hide himself from them. They could come looking for the missing guards or something else, he didn't know. He went to the corner without making any sounds. He felt bad, though, treating Rozina like this.

He thought about moving Rozina too, but she was an unconscious person rightnow, and moving her might alert whoever was coming. He had to survive first to save another person.

Soon the sound became clearer, someone was talking, and Hynek had never heard a language like this in his entire life. Hynek understood one thing: these people who were coming were walking slow and they were walking at a leisurely pace.

He could understand it by the way their voices were coming to his ear, the voices were coming slowly, and the language was unknown, so Hynek took a deep breath, stood up, and peeked outside.

The air outside was filled with smoke as the fire died down with time. Hynek could see three silhouettes in the smoke, and with a little bit of fire here and there he can see them clearly when they will cross the deep smoke, he sat down quietly to observe them.

Soon the silhouette came closer. Hynek saw Priest Simon was in the middle, his collar was grabbed by one of the soldiers he was crying as if he looked like he was afraid of something.

The two on the side were wearing red caftans and pointy steel helmets, they were also wearing armor and looked fearsome soldiers.

"Bu köy terk edilmiş, her yer ateşte yandı." [1]

"Burada bekle, ben kaptanımızı getireceğim." [2]

They were talking in a language that Hynek didn't understand, but he saw one of them go back somewhere in the smoke, the second one, who was holding a small sword in his waist, stood with the priest as if to guard him.

"I just knew this, nothing more. Let me go, please."

The priest cried while kneeling down and begged for mercy.

Smack

Priest was slapped hard across the cheeks, Simon puked blood and then stayed quiet, he was still kneeling, and his eyes lost all hope.

Sakra! One after another.

Hynek gritted his teeth. He was not ready for the battle, but if he dragged things out, he would have to face more enemies. He could guess the one who left earlier might or would surely call for reinforcement.

I have to get out of here and now save the priest as well in the process.

Hynek understood one thing: that this new group of bandits, or whatever they were, was not from here and would search every nook and cranny for anything they found valuable.

Hynek slowly pulled out his long sword from its sheath, then crouched down. He didn't want to be a knight who would officially engage in a formal duel, he just wanted to survive today. He was desperate, and that is why he was trying to make a decision while he still could and had the leverage to do it.

He left the pantry while crouching on his knee, he was too tall and would attract attention as soon as he walked or even stood up. He quietly approached the man in armor, the soldier was just looking in the opposite direction from Hynek, conveniently.

Hynek grabbed the hilt of the sword tightly. He was so big that the two-handed long sword looked like a small, one-handed one in his hand. He was certain if he didn't kill now, he would be killed later. So there was no hesitation in his eyes at all, he jumped up from the ground, his wounds made him flinch a little, and he tasted something like iron in his mouth suddenly, but that didn't stop his momentum. He pierced his sword through the neck, just below the ear, the man's neck was exposed from behind.

The priest Simon was shocked, the soldier clutched his neck and dropped on the ground, then twitched several times before succumbing to his death.
