Chapter 1: Not Divined
Year 3 – Seeds of Legacy
The Hogwarts elective form sat on Harry's desk like a sleeping curse.
Deceptively plain, it was just a single sheet of parchment, no magical embellishments, just an ordinary list. But the five subjects printed across its surface—Divination, Care of Magical Creatures, Muggle Studies, Ancient Runes, Arithmancy—felt heavier than any spell he'd learned so far. It wasn't just a form. It was a fork in the road.
McGonagall had been firm when she handed them out. "These choices matter. Not just for your OWLs, but for your magical foundation. Choose wisely."
Harry had stared at it for three days. He'd even carried it around in his book bag, hoping inspiration might strike like a stray spell.
But now it was Thursday evening. Deadline tomorrow. And he still had no idea.
Hermione noticed first, of course.
"You haven't filled it out yet?" she asked, frowning as she sat beside him in the common room, tucking her legs beneath her.
Harry shook his head. "I've been thinking about it."
"Thinking?" She looked mildly alarmed. "It's been four days!"
He gave her a helpless look.
Hermione sighed, clearly trying not to seem too exasperated. "Well, I picked Arithmancy and Ancient Runes. They're the most academically rigorous—and honestly the most useful if you want to do anything beyond standard magical jobs."
