"Not going to happen. I'm a pirate hunter, why would I join a pirate?" Zoro asked giving Luffy a dangerous look that cowed Coby but didn't bother Luffy.
"The East Blue already considers you a bad guy so what do you have to lose?" Luffy asked right back making Zoro snort.
"I don't care what the world thinks of me. As long as I become stronger and achieve my dream." Zoro said and Luffy perked up a bit at that.
"Your dream?" Luffy asked making Zoro smirk at him.
"I will defeat a certain man and become the worlds greatest swordsman." Zoro said as if it were mere fact that he would do such a thing.
"Oh you wanna beat Uncle Hawky." Luffy said casually and making Coby gape at him in disbelief while Zoro nodded. Coby had gotten back from escorting the little girl home safely just in time to hear that part and he looked like his brain was short circuiting.
"Yes I want to defeat your Uncle Hawk…" Zoro trailed off as the sentence processed in his mind. Then his eyes widened and his head whipped around to stare at Luffy.
"Dracula Mihawk is your uncle?" Zoro gaped at the unassuming, and honestly if you ignored the weapons he seemed rather harmless, looking teen in front of him who shrugged his shoulders casually.
"Sort of? One of my papas is friends with him and he came over a lot when I was a kid, he was always one of the best at hide and seek and he didn't mind showing me some moves even though I'm not really a swordsman. My sister and I labeled him uncle Hawky when I was eight or nine and we've called him that since. He never told us to stop." Luffy said as if it wasn't a big deal at all, and to him it wasn't. Worlds greatest swordsman or not he was still uncle Hawky to Luffy.
"It was always interesting watching him and Mama Ama spar cause they're both sword users but Mama Ama uses a slow sword style." Luffy said noting that and remembering the times he's seen them spar and saw how his mama, even when using her signature slow attacks, was still fast enough on her feet and hid her presence well enough that she could get a few minor scratches in on Mihawk.
"Wha…that just gives me another reason not to join. Why would I join someone when I plan to beat his uncle?" Zoro asked not sure if the kid was telling the truth or not but until proven otherwise he'd act as if the kid was.
"Beat doesn't mean kill. In a serious sword fight it's actually harder to not kill an opponent right? So it's not like you're going to kill him. Besides when you get good enough he'd probably enjoy the challenge of fighting you and getting his title back if you take it from him." Luffy pointed out making Zoro think about it for a second. He was right that in the heat of a fight it was harder and therefore showed more power and control when you didn't kill an opponent who was just as skilled as you.
"Plus if you join me then you'll probably run into him a couple of times. Until we get to at least the grand line most of my family won't be checking on me because it'd send the marines in a panic to see them leaving the New World much less Paradise. So the few members of my family who wouldn't be out of place or setting them off while traveling around the blues and all will definitely be dropping by to check on me sometimes. Uncle Hawky is one of them." Luffy said matter of factly as if it were only a matter of time until his Uncle Hawky came to visit him. He knew it was. None of his aunts and uncles or Mamas and Papas could come to the blues to check on him from either baa-chan's crew or Papa Shanks'.
The most he would likely run into until he's back in the grand line would be some of Mama Stussy's girls, who he had been introduced to when he was younger and decided they were nice, and maybe Uncle Umit and Hawky.
"Eh you don't have to decide now though. Like you said you've got a week." Luffy said shrugging his shoulders and getting ready to turn away.
"Before you leave! Please…feed me those rice balls." Zoro snapped out of his shock and thoughts for a moment to glance down at the rice balls.
"Huh? But they're all dirty now?" Luffy asked making Zoro glare at him.
"Just do it!" Zoro demanded and Luffy smiled.
"Sure. I hate wasting food anyways." Luffy said scooping up the rice balls and holding them out near Zoro's mouth. That was one lesson that his parents and baa-chan all made sure he knew. There was no way you could survive on the sea if you wasted food, even in a land made of food like Tottoland none of the Charlotte family were to waste food.
"Tell that girl that it was good." Zoro said making Luffy nod his head and he smiled slightly. Yeah Zoro was a good guy. Luffy definitely wanted him on his crew now.
"See you again in a week if things go well." Luffy called over his shoulder as he turned to leave, taking Coby with him as they scaled back over the wall.
"You know the way to that girls place? I've got a message for her." Luffy asked glancing at Coby who nodded mutely and led him towards the restaurant that the girl said was her home.
"So I'll be here for a week or until I can talk Zoro into joining my crew. How long before you join up with the marines?" Luffy asked as he followed behind Coby, happy with how the day's gone so far.
"I'll probably go to enlist after we get done eating." Coby said already knowing that he and Luffy would be having a meal at the restaurant.
They just weren't expecting to find the bastard blond brat in the restaurant bossing around the people as if he owned them.
And they definitely weren't expecting for Luffy's schedule to be moved up.
