Chapter 3 - Welcome to Viremonté (Part 2)

The bar, which would always be filled to the brim with drunks, was mysteriously closed that day. Which was unusual because the bar would always be open. Through thick and thin, the bar would always be open. Even if the owner, who was also the bartender, was sick, the bar would still be open. So it was odd that it was mysteriously closed one day.

The local authorities had closed the bar indefinitely, not for any normal reason like it was a danger to people's health, it was because the owner had died. To be more exact, he was murdered.

A man wearing a brown trench coat walked towards the bar. His brown hair swaying in the wind. Two officers, who were guarding the door to the bar, immediately straightened up and moved out of the way of the door.

"Good evening, Sargent!" said one of the officers.

"How's the wife?" asked another.

The man had ignored both of the officers and walked into the empty bar. The inside of the bar seem to be unharmed. No signs of a struggle. That was usual due to the brutal nature of the murder. The man crouched down in front of the body of the deceased bar owner.

Another man walked into the bar, he sighed sarcastically and flicked on one of the lights.

"We meet again, Yang." said the man who just walked into the bar.

The man with the brown trench coat was Yang Guoliang, an assistant senior investigator for the Viremonté Secret Service. The V.S.S investigates murders and other horrific crimes, while the Viremonté Sheriff's Department takes care of the easier crimes.

Yang turned to see a man dressed in a white trench coat and circular glasses, standing in between the door frame.

"What are you doing here, Zhong." asked Yang.

Zhong Guowei was a senior investigator for the V.S.S. Zhong walked around the bar, looking for evidence.

"So, what's an assistant senior investigator doing without their partner?" asked Zhong with an childish tone.

"You know what happened to him, don't act dumb." replied Yang.

Zhong walked over to a booth and started looking for evidence. As Zhong was looking, Yang started to closely examine the body of the deceased bar owner. There was nothing out of the usual, the bar owner was wearing a bright red vest with a white button up underneath it. The only thing out of the ordinary was the long, deep cut that went from the right side of the man's throat to the other. The cut was deep and seemed like it was from a blade of some sort. The other thing that stood out was the absence of the man's eyes.

"The bar owner had their throat slit, look for a blade or a knife somewhere," said Yang. "the man is also missing their eyes." Zhong paused for a moment then rushed over to Yang. Zhong calmly walked over to Yang and crouched down.

"Holy shit." said Zhong in disbelief.

Zhong brushed his messy, green hair out of his eyes and began to closely examine the man.

Zhong's eyes began to grow a bright green. "The knife isn't here. The culprit must've brought the murder weapon with him." Zhong said as he stood back up. "The weapon is about 5 inches long, it has a wooden handle, and on the end of it, it has a small clock." Zhong said as he began searching behind the counter, usually where the bar keeper would've been.

"Why would the culprit have a clock at the bottom of the knife." Yang asked.

"The man who did this, has also killed other people too. He's experienced. He killed this man in one clean slice. A low life thug couldn't do this." Zhong replied

Yang stood up and started to also search the room.

Zhong began to open cabinets and taking out everything that was inside. "As for the clock," Zhong began as he went inside one of the cabinets. "it could be a symbol, you know. Maybe he's in a cult or something."

"You said he had experience killing, right?" asked Yang as he turned towards Zhong.

Zhong appeared from underneath the bar keeper's counter. "Yes, why?" Zhong asked.

Yang brushed his hair out of his eyes. "Find out about murders in this area in the last 30 days." Yang said as he walked over to the corpse one last time. He took one last look at the man and walked outside. "We gotta find this bastard." Yang said as he walked away.

"That's my line, idiot." Zhong cussed as he also walked out the bar.

 ***

I stood at the mirror in shock. I have never thought that reincarnation would happen to me.

This couldn't be a dream.

I began to look around the room. My eyes locked onto the desk. I walked over to the desk and began to search. There were no drawers. Only books and a glass of water. Nothing important.

The glass, which was where the water was in, looked homemade, sort of rough looking. Did the person living here make this. Suddenly out of knowhere:

BA-BUM

It felt like someone had stopped my heart.

Next thing I heard, was a girl's voice.

Your name is Chen Xiaotong

You are 20 years old. You are a student at Lóngyuán Academy.

You live in the town of Zhàoyè Chéng in the Country of Viremonté.

You have lived here your whole life.

You're special. You wield a unique weapon, Yùguāng.

Come find me, my hero.

I'll be waiting...

Just then I was hit again by something. Not like my heart stopping. But a burning sensation in my head. Memories flowed into my brain. Memories of someone. Memories from Chen Xiaotong.

Running through a field of grass. Spending time with his family. He had a bunch of happy memories. But one memory stood out from the rest.

It was a sunny day, the birds were chirping, the trees were blowing. Chen was walking through a field hand in hand with someone. A girl. I can't remember what she looked like. The only thing I could remember, was her smile and her voice.

Please, promise to me. When we grow up. We'll get married...

Just then, I came back. Back to the present. Back to the brown room. It was that girl. The girl I was holding hands with. That was her voice. Tears started to fall. I don't know why I'm crying.

I began to wipe away the tears, but more and more came.

Who was that girl?
