Chapter 2 - More Dead.

Karim.

I know I can't trust her anymore but I can't stop my body from wanting her. The flashing of light brings me back to my senses. I start running blindly. For all I know, she could be be a witch or something even darker. I hear her coming behind me. I'm afraid of her.

I thought I knew everything about her, but now I don't even know if her real name is Arya.

I run into a corner instead of the tunnel's exit. As she runs past, wind gushes over me. I reach around in the dark for any kind of weapon. I feel a shovel or spade, it' hard to tell which one it is. I grasp it well and tip-toe towards her.

She reaches an arm to climb out of the tunnel and I knock her out cold.

I reach for her wrists to see if she still has a pulse. She still does. I was almost afraid she would share the same fate as the police officer.

I pick her up and haul her over my shoulder. With her extra weight, it is extra tricky to climb out of the tunnel. I manage to climb out, though I sustain a lot of bruises.

I stealthily move to where our car is hidden behind a copse of trees and open the door.

I dump her at the back and fasten two seatbelts over her. I slide into the driver's seat and turn on the ignition. The engine comes to life with a sweet purr. I put on my own seat belt and reverse into the highway. As we drive past, I can see a couple of police cars huddled at the crime scene. Among the officers that stand there is the officer that I killed. He is discussing with his partners like nothing happened.

I turn to look at the woman at the back. My supposed wife. When we get home, I will tie her in my underground bunker and do whatever I have to do to get the truth out of her.

I look into the rearview mirror and spot a cop car tailing us. Not again. I am not even speeding. I enter the road on my right to confirm if we are actually being followed. To my surprise, we are not. I drive slowly toward the house. We would need to move out soon. Why do I still say 'we'. Do we even still have a future together. Is she who I've always thought her to be or is she someone else.

I park the car in the garage. I pull down the garage door before I switch on the lights. I unfasten the seat belts around her and pull her out of the car. I haul her over my shoulder and take her inside the house. I walk through the dark house silently. I hear footsteps. We are not alone. Arya stirs. She is starting to wake up. I drop her carefully on the sofa and move towards the stairs. The footsteps are louder now. Someone is definitely up there. I dash into the kitchen and grab a knife. I slowly tip-toe up the stairs. Fortunately for me, the stairs barely creaked.

I finally reach the landing. A light is on is one of the rooms. Our bedroom. I see the shadow of the person moving around the room. I walk closer to the door and stand by the side. The person inside the room stops moving. After a brief while, I hear footsteps approaching the door. The barrel of a gun pokes out first. I immediately grab the gun and try to disarm the person. To my utmost shock, it's our neighbour. What the heck!

He jerks the gun and it fires into the floorboards. He kicks my shins and I buckle. He points the gun at my forehead. That's it. I toss the knife at him. He falls on his knees as blood trickles down his neck and from his mouth. He falls flat on his face. I close my eyes. I just killed another person. I hear movement behind me. I spin around on my knees. It's just Arya.

She just stares at the dead body. She doesn't gasp, doesn't scream or shriek, nothing. She looks at it as if she has seen thousands of dead bodies. She probably has.

She crouches down beside me and I shift away from her.

"We are in big trouble". Is all she says.

Her eyes are glowing again. They glowed just like that when she raised that officer from the dead. No matter how scary she now is, she saved my skin from life imprisonment.

If she raises this guy too, she would be saving my ass again. Should I be grateful that my wife can raise the dead?

She ran her hands along the pool of blood on the floor and licked her fingers. Her eyes glow even brighter.

"He came here to steal money from our safe". She says.

I shift away from her and stare wordlessly.

"How do you know that?" I ask.

She licks her fingers thoroughly and looks up at me.

She has a crazy look in her eyes. Something I've never seen before.

"Because I read it in his blood. Just like I read in yours that you were planning on whacking me". She says and laughs out loud.

Is this the part where I get killed?

"Rise". She says to the body on the floor.

She pulls out the knife in his neck and the wound heals immediately.

I stare with my mouth agape.

The body rises from the ground slowly like it is being controlled. What form of sorcery is this? I wonder.

The body lunges at me and I move out of the way just in time. She just stands there laughing and laughing.

"Stop this already". I say in anger.

She stops laughing and looks even more creepy with a serious face.

"You started it when you killed that officer. It's never going to stop". She taunts.

I gulp hard.

The body walks out of the room. I notice that it starts to regain it's conciousness as it leaves. How is she able to do all that?

Then, before I know what's happening, she slumps to the ground.
