Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Mastery and Compensation

Whoosh—whoosh—

Soft whistling sounds of slicing air echoed as six shuriken shot from Shane's palm, cutting through the air and landing precisely on the target.

Proficiency +3!

This was a new trick Shane had recently discovered—throwing multiple shuriken or kunai at once, and if they hit the target, it would give bonus proficiency points.

Thanks to this, in just under two hours, his "Ninja Tool Throwing" skill had reached Lv0 (96/100)!

Just two more rounds of practice, and he'd officially master the skill.

Whoosh—whoosh—whoosh—

Several more shuriken flew out.

Proficiency +2!

Proficiency +3!

Ninja Tool Throwing: Lv0 (96/100) → Lv1 (1/200)!

The moment the proficiency upgraded, Shane felt as if a thin paper barrier had been pierced. His understanding of ninja tool throwing reached a whole new level.

He had felt similar sensations before when increasing proficiency, but never this clearly.

With a casual thought, Shane grabbed a kunai nearby and threw it offhandedly. Even without focusing, the kunai still landed squarely on the target.

"So this is what mastery feels like?"

As he marveled, Shane swiftly threw all the practice kunai and shuriken at his side—every one hitting the target, just like before.

Opening his skill panel, he glanced over—and the excitement on his face instantly vanished.

Why? Despite throwing so many weapons in succession, his Ninja Tool Throwing proficiency had only increased by one point.

"Is this a limitation of Lv1, or is there another reason?"

Puzzled, Shane began running a series of tests.

About half an hour later, he finally stopped.

After dozens of trials, he figured out the reason:

There were two main factors behind the slow proficiency gain:

His predecessor's level in this skill was roughly at this point.

That meant the inherited experience and muscle memory could no longer help him progress—slowing down growth naturally.

His training had become too casual.

At Lv1, to gain proficiency, he now needed to hit the bullseye—and from ten meters away.

Anything less? Didn't count.

And in his recent flurry of throws, only one shuriken had actually hit the bullseye—the rest were outside the mark.

Hence, just one point of proficiency.

This confirmed something important:

The proficiency panel isn't something you can just game or bluff through.

If he wanted to improve, he'd have to earn it properly through effort.

The panel simply visualized his hard work, nothing more.

But that alone was already enough.

Many people give up not because they don't want to work hard—but because they don't see results.

If every drop of sweat brought tangible progress, Shane believed most people would keep going.

Shaking his head, he cleared his thoughts and refocused on training Ninja Tool Throwing.

For him right now, hitting the ten-meter target wasn't hard—but hitting the bullseye was another story.

He needed full concentration just for a chance—and even then, it wasn't guaranteed.

Time ticked by as one kunai after another left his hand.

Most missed the bullseye, with only about 10% landing dead center.

Even so, his Ninja Tool Throwing skill continued to inch upward.

Before he knew it, the school day was over.

Amid the noise of the dispersing crowd, Shane opened his status panel:

[Name: Uchiha Shane]

Age: 10

Physique: 5

Mind: 7

Chakra: 21 (131)

Bloodline: Sharingan · Unawakened (51/100)

Skills:

Chakra Refining Technique: Lv0 (8/100)

Clone Technique: Lv0 (46/100)

Basic Taijutsu: Lv0 (35/100)

Ninja Tool Throwing: Lv1 (29/200)

As shown, after half an afternoon of intense training, his Ninja Tool Throwing proficiency had risen by 28 points.

To maintain his stamina, he had also consumed over 20 chakra points.

Otherwise, even a machine wouldn't have been able to keep up.

Fortunately, it had all been worth it.

At this pace, within one more week, he could reach Lv2.

At that level, his ability with ninja tools would be on par with sixth-year students—despite the fact that he'd only been at school for a short time.

That meant when he graduated early, his self-defense ability would already be decent.

However, ninja tools alone weren't enough—his Basic Taijutsu and Three Basic Techniques needed to catch up too.

Fortunately, Taijutsu wasn't a concern.

With the solid foundation left behind by his predecessor, he could soon reach mastery and keep grinding from there.

But as for the Three Techniques…

After he handled the weekly assessment in three days, he could start practicing Substitution Technique and Transformation Technique.

While the Three Basic Techniques didn't do much against higher-level ninja, they were very useful against opponents at the same level.

That's why he had to master all three, preferably pushing them to Lv2 or Lv3 before graduation.

Only then would he have a basic sense of security.

Thinking all this over, he made his way home.

After a simple meal to fill his stomach, he immediately resumed training.

First, two hours of chakra refining.

Then, once his chakra was full, he practiced the Clone Technique.

After draining all his chakra, he'd refine again for another two hours to recover about 100 chakra points—then repeat the cycle.

After two rounds, nightfall came, and his body had reached its limit. Then he could finally rest.

The next day?

Wake up. School. Training. Repeat.

Just like that, a week passed.

When Shane got home one day, he suddenly heard a knock at the door.

Knock knock knock—

The unexpected knocking made Shane pause in confusion.

Since his transmigration, he had hardly interacted with anyone aside from classmates and teachers.

Who could possibly be coming to see him?

Despite his doubts, Shane still opened the door.

As for danger? He wasn't worried.

Not only was this the heart of Konoha, but the name Uchiha alone was enough to scare off most troublemakers.

Unless it was some desperate thug, living in the Uchiha compound was extremely safe.

Besides, the ones who might stir up trouble either weren't powerful enough yet or weren't even in the village.

So really, Shane had nothing to worry about.

Creak—

The door opened.

A man in a Konoha Jōnin uniform, clearly an Uchiha, stood at the door.

"Shane?" the visitor asked.

"Mm." Shane nodded, puzzled. "That's me. And you are?"

"I'm Uchiha Haruhito. I'm here today to deliver the village's compensation to you."

Hearing that, Shane quickly recalled memories from his predecessor's life. His face appropriately darkened with sorrow.

Seeing this, Uchiha Haruhito didn't question him and continued,

"Also, the clan will provide you with a monthly living allowance of 10,000 ryō—until you become a Genin."

As he spoke, he handed over an envelope.

"Thank you," Shane said softly, bowing slightly as he took the thick envelope.
