Chapter 1 - One million dollars

"One million dollars. Your job? Get my great-grandson pregnant and get lost."

The words dropped like ice.

An old woman, draped in an opulent silk robe, sat at the far end of a low floor table.

Her expression was cold—her gaze filled with pure disgust as she stared at the tall, striking man seated across from her.

"Do you accept or not?"

With those words, a dozen guards in sleek black suits stepped forward, guns in hand.

They surrounded the tall man with purple eyes, who blinked, still trying to grasp just how much one million dollars really was.

To everyone in the room, the old woman's message was clear: accept the offer and live—or refuse and leave as a dead body.

But to Naui—naïve and money-hungry—Clara Parker, the billionaire of K City, didn't seem like a threat. After all, he had no idea what the modern world was capable of.

He had woken up just a week ago.

Naui didn't even recognize the immense danger in the many guns pointed at him.

Not that it would've mattered—he wouldn't have cared either way. He was a Celestial Fox who had lived for thousands of years.

A few bullets here and there wouldn't even leave a scratch. Or perhaps it was because he could kill them all before the bullets ever reached him. The only person who could kill him was the one destined to win his heart.

To him, Clara Parker was just a crazy old woman offering a huge fortune for what seemed like the easiest job on Earth.

Wait—there was actually a tiny problem.

As a Celestial, getting someone pregnant wasn't exactly easy… not unless he wanted to. And he had no intention of becoming a father—at least, not in this lifetime. Why?

Because—ugh—the responsibility.

He could barely take care of himself. How was he supposed to feed a little fox? What if the little brat ate more than he did? How was he even going to afford that? Ha. Just thinking about it gave him a headache.

Well, he could stall and enjoy the luxury in the meantime. After all, it could take years for someone to actually get pregnant.

Right? Heh.

He hadn't just been offered a huge fortune, but also a house, free food, and a big bed—everything he needed most right now! Of course he was going to accept the offer.

An offer that had fallen into his lap—just when he was on the verge of crying from despair! The world had changed so much, and he quite literally had nowhere to go.

He really should thank the kind man who guided him here after finding him lying by the roadside, barely hanging on. The man had even given him a decent suit—but for some reason, he disappeared after taking his gold-embroidered robes and bracelets.

Naui ran his hand through his hair, which shimmered like fine threads of sunlight. A smile so charming it could disarm anyone played on his lips, his expression sweet as he extended his other hand toward the old woman for a handshake to seal the deal.

"I accept the deal, my lady."

Clara recoiled, as if he were something distasteful she'd rather keep her distance from, despite Naui being the most alluring and handsome man she'd seen in years.

"There's no need to get that close."

She swiftly picked up the file lying on the table and glanced through it one last time.

"Name: Naui Chan Inari. Age: 24. College dropout, no degree, no known family. Lastly—and most importantly—a dominant Alpha: disease-free, with no pheromone issues."

She slammed the file on the table.

"Am I correct?"

Naui flinched. Crap.

Other than his name, everything she said was completely made up—courtesy of the Grim Reaper, who happened to be passing by when he woke up, confused to find that his precious bed had drifted into hell while he was sleeping, and took pity on him.

After all, during his thousands-years-long nap, both the fox clan and the dragon clan had been wiped out by the demon clan.

He vaguely remembered the foxes and dragons trying to wake him—both sides actually teaming up, despite centuries of bickering, just to shake him out of bed.

Touching, really.

But... he was just too sleepy. So, with a quick flick of his finger, he sent them all flying. Problem solved. Back to sleep.

Ahem. Best not to dwell on the past.

Naui nodded at the old woman.

"You are correct. I am Naui Chan Inari."

He folded his fingers beneath the table.

Lying was never easy—and as a Celestial Fox, it was even harder. Karma was always watching him, like a nosy neighbor with a grudge, prepared to dish out punishment.

Hopefully, he wouldn't get struck by a thunderbolt… at least not right away.

"Twenty-four years old."

Though, mentally, he said something else.

'I mean... more like 4,000.'

"No family."

'Well, they are all dead. Fortunately, all in Heaven—I confirmed with the Grim Reaper.'

"And yes, a dominant Alpha. No issues."

'What even is an Alpha...? She keeps going on about how her grandson is an Omega. I seriously need to look this shit up. ASAP.'

Clara narrowed her eyes, then gestured to her secretary—a young, pretty woman in a suit who had been standing silently behind her the entire time, as if she didn't exist.

The secretary handed her a keycard, which Clara tossed at Naui without warning—only to blink in surprise when he easily caught it mid-air with just two fingers. She hummed.

"That's the key to the house where you will be staying. Sign the contract in front of you—then the guards will escort you. From this point on, you'll live there with my grandson until he has successfully conceived."

She tapped her fingers on the table.

"You'll be given a new phone, and you are not to contact anyone until our contract is over. Everything you need will be provided, so there's no reason to go outside."

Her tone grew more serious.

"50% of the agreed payment will be send into a new bank account under your name. The rest will be transferred once your job is done and you've vanished from his life."

A cold, fleeting smile flickered in her eyes, hinting at exactly how he would 'disappear' once his job was done—just like the greedy, disposable dominant Alphas she had hired for her daughter and granddaughter. Soon, he—the one chosen for her great-grandson—would follow the same path as them.

"That's it. Sign the contract and go."

Naui hurriedly signed the contract—of course, without reading a word of it.

The language was weird and scribbled anyway; like he'd understand a thing.

Then he stood up with a smile and happily followed the guards as they escorted him out of the room where he'd been sitting.

He didn't even ask for a picture of the man he was supposed to get pregnant, let alone his name. Naui just wanted to hurry up and find his new bed. It was getting harder and harder for him to keep his eyes fully open.

Once he was gone, Clara Parker picked up her phone and dialed a number. Her voice was emotionless as she gave the order.

"Tell your son I've finally found a suitable dominant Alpha for him. He should move into the apartment I gave him last year."
