Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Leftovers from the Asura Sword

Lin Fan's whole body shuddered as he snapped back to his senses, only to feel a strange emptiness afterward.

When the sword filled with murderous aura merged into his body, for a moment, he had almost lost himself, nearly becoming a mindless killing machine.

"Damn, System, what the hell is this blood-red sword?! I just teased you a little, and you're already trying to kill me?"

[Congratulations, Host, you have obtained the Slaughter Sword. Martial Soul +1.]

Slaughter Sword:

Originating from the super divine artifact, the Asura Sword, this sword is condensed from its slaughter attribute. Its power is immense, and it can eventually evolve into the true Asura Sword.

"…"

"So this so-called divine martial soul… turns out it's just a leftover fragment from the Asura God King's sword."

Though Lin Fan couldn't help but complain, the Slaughter Sword lived up to its name.

With it, he instantly gained the Slaughter Domain and a skill called Slaughter Strike.

Although Lin Fan had reached the level of Titled Douluo, his Azure Shadow Sword martial soul wasn't high enough in quality to grant him any domains.

This just proved how much a powerful martial soul could boost a soul master's strength.

If Lin Fan had possessed a divine martial soul from the start, he wouldn't have struggled so much just to barely reach Titled Douluo.

"Hey, you! Who are you, and what's your purpose here at Shrek Academy?"

Lu Qibin's voice interrupted Lin Fan's thoughts. Seeing Lin Fan completely ignore him, Lu Qibin felt rather humiliated.

"Oh, it's nothing. I was just being silly earlier. I'll take my leave now."

Snapping back to reality, Lin Fan let out a playful laugh, then casually turned to leave.

"Sorry for the trouble."

Having completed the system mission and obtained the divine martial soul, Slaughter Sword, there was no reason for him to stay at Shrek Academy.

Without waiting for Tang Hao to catch on, Lin Fan slipped away immediately.

In the blink of an eye, he was already outside the academy gates.

By the time Lu Qibin realized it, Lin Fan was long gone.

"Hmph! He ran away in shame after being exposed by me. He was probably terrified of my strength!"

Lu Qibin scoffed smugly.

"Well, at least he ran fast. Mumbai, you brought him in, right?"

Lu Qibin shot a look at Dai Mubai.

"Teacher Lu, I didn't know! Teacher Li said he was here to enroll as a student."

Dai Mubai replied, looking extremely frustrated at being dragged into this mess.

"Old Li must be going senile. How could someone that old possibly be a student? And you let him inside to cause trouble?!"

Lu Qibin grumbled.

Dai Mubai nodded in agreement.

"Wait a minute! He took two of my sausages and didn't even pay!"

Suddenly, Oscar shouted out, heart aching over his lost food.

"Mumbai, since you brought him in, the loss is on you."

Lu Qibin ordered before returning to his position to oversee the soul power tests.

"Sigh… What a mess…"

Dai Mubai groaned, slapping his forehead in frustration.

Then he bought another sausage from Oscar and handed it to Tang San, saying that Oscar's sausages could help restore stamina and heal injuries.

As the biggest victim here, Tang San had no choice but to endure the pain and his disgust, reluctantly eating the sausage.

"How entertaining."

Nearby, a beautiful girl commented with amusement as she watched the scene unfold.

Meanwhile, Lin Fan strolled down a forested path, whistling cheerfully.

So what if he'd embarrassed himself? He'd finally gotten his divine martial soul from the system. It was worth it.

Once he found himself alone, Lin Fan immediately summoned the Slaughter Sword he had just received.

As the sword appeared in his hand, a beam of crimson light shot straight into the sky.

Its hilt was a dark, reddish-black color, and its blade glowed blood-red from tip to guard. The sword measured three feet three inches in length and was about an inch wide.

Compared to his Azure Shadow Sword, this Slaughter Sword was far heavier and far more domineering.

It radiated an overwhelming sense of power, but more importantly, its terrifying slaughter aura made Lin Fan's expression darken, his eyes reddening slightly, and his breathing growing heavier.

The entire blade was engulfed in crimson flames—not actual fire, but dense, murderous energy condensed into a visible aura.

Lin Fan immediately dismissed the Slaughter Sword, his heart still racing with lingering fear.

No wonder it's forged from the slaughter aura of the Asura Sword—this thing is terrifying. Even with my current spiritual power, I was still affected by its killing intent. If I use it for too long, I might lose control entirely…

"But regardless, now that I have twin martial souls, my strength can advance even further."

Lin Fan hadn't expected the Slaughter Sword's killing aura to be this overwhelming. Even as its wielder, he could feel its terrifying influence.

He couldn't imagine what would happen to anyone else affected by its lingering energy.

"Time to head back to the Star Dou Great Forest. I'll hunt down a couple of ninety-nine-thousand-year-old soul beasts and attach their rings to the Slaughter Sword to boost my power."

"Then I'll take out that monkey and water snake, too. After that, I'll come back and finish off Xiao Wu. If Tang Hao dares to interfere… I'll kill him too."

"Then I'll slay that whale in the sea… Wouldn't I be unstoppable by then?"

"Right, System? Isn't it about time for my next ultimate mission—to become a god?"

Lin Fan was already fantasizing about his future, full of anticipation.

[New Mission Issued: Host has successfully enrolled in Shrek Academy through your hard work. However, due to Zhao Wuji's unreasonable challenge, you failed the fourth assessment. Your new mission is to endure one incense stick's worth of time under Zhao Wuji's attacks in a combat test.]

[Reward: Innate Full Soul Power Talent.]

Lin Fan's face darkened as he cursed,

"System, what's my current strength and age again?"

[12 years old, Soul Power Rank 31. System rewards are always of premium quality.]

Lin Fan took a deep breath and calmly declared,

"Let me explain myself clearly once again—I, Lin Fan, am forty-six years old, Rank 91 Titled Douluo."

[Please refer to the system's registered age.]

"System, if you've got issues, I can help fix you."

[Please refer to the system's registered age.]

"Damn you! What a garbage system! There's no way I'm going back to Shrek!"

[Please refer to the system's registered age.]

Lin Fan, a dignified Titled Douluo, was finally pushed to his breaking point by the system.

Passersby glanced nervously at the man yelling to himself in the street and quickly avoided him, steering clear.

In the end, Lin Fan reluctantly returned to Shrek Academy, entering under Li Yusong's bewildered gaze.

Innate Full Soul Power was still tempting to him.

Even though he now had the divine Slaughter Sword martial soul, the system hadn't mentioned anything about improving his cultivation talent.

Otherwise, why would it offer Innate Full Soul Power as a reward?

Lin Fan walked through the academy plaza but didn't see Tang San or the others.

They had gone to find Zhao Wuji for their final combat test.

Without hesitation, Lin Fan headed toward the back of the academy.

"Stop right there! You again?! What's your real purpose sneaking back here?"

Lu Qibin suddenly appeared, blocking his path.

"Get lost. I'm not in the mood to play with you."

Lin Fan calmly stared at Lu Qibin, his eyes cold and emotionless.

Lu Qibin trembled under Lin Fan's gaze, inexplicably feeling a chill of fear.

"I won't let you wander around the academy freely without explaining yourself!"

Lu Qibin said as he released his martial soul—Stellar Chessboard.

Instantly, the sky darkened around them, and a grid-like chessboard pattern spread out beneath their feet.

Lu Qibin held a black chess piece in his hand, six soul rings appearing around him.

"Rank 66 Soul Emperor? Hah, laughable."

Lin Fan sneered, summoning his Azure Shadow Sword.

As soon as his nine soul rings descended—two yellow, two purple, and five black—Lu Qibin broke out in a cold sweat, trembling as he instinctively bowed under the oppressive aura.

"T-Titled Douluo…"

Lu Qibin's eyes widened in horror as he muttered in disbelief.
