Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Guilty Jealous

Bazt knew Yimmy Adams was the culprit from the start.

But how did he know?

That was the question on everyone's mind when they saw Yimmy sitting in the interrogation room.

Even Yimmy himself was wondering. His plan had been perfect.

"Well, so you're the killer after all. Paola and Mikey are devastated and shaken."

Bazt and Alicia entered the room, and without hesitation, Bazt went straight for the kill.

"But... it's impossible. The plan was perfect. This wasn't supposed to happen..."

Even in custody, Yimmy couldn't believe it.

"Yes, your plan was perfect. Perfect… if you look at it from a police perspective."

Bazt pulled out a board and showed Yimmy all the evidence that led to him.

"But not from the emotional side."

***

The first piece of evidence that made me doubt you:

A photo of the wife on stage.

There were several people in the photo. Paola was the lead, but the others were noticeable too. You were one of them.

I had forgotten the picture, but you gave yourself away when you said you were her colleague.

Then I visited Paola's home again and saw the photo. You were there, staring at her.

Then I remembered how you described her. How could someone be mourning a dead friend, and still describe his wife with such joy and affection?

Only someone who's a good actor but terrible at hiding their emotions could do that.

Second big clue:

The casino was near the city.

Wally was an outsider. How could he know where to find a hidden illegal casino?

"There, we had two options," Alicia said, eager to participate.

One: Wally was so addicted that he searched non-stop until he found a casino.

That didn't seem likely. From Mikey's descriptions, Wally was clearly a good guy.

"So we're left with the second option," Alicia continued, eyes sparkling. She loved this part.

Two: someone took Wally there.

And if that's the case… who would lead Lex to a place that would be his downfall?

I considered the missing person—maybe he took Wally. But something didn't add up.

Third major clue:

The debt was way too high for him to owe it alone.

It's an illegal casino. If someone vanishes without paying, they'd just kill them or use their body to settle the score.

But even so, Wally s debt was far too high. No casino would loan that kind of money without some sort of guarantee.

Then it hit me: there weren't just two people involved—there were three.

So… who was the third person?

That's when I connected the dots. Everyone knew Wally was a gambling addict, but no one knew the casino's location.

But you, Yimmy Adams—you had a card from the place. You claimed Lex gave it to you...

But why would they give it to you if they went to such lengths to hide it?

The truth is... they didn't. You already knew.

You were just as much of a gambling addict as Wally.

And you were jealous.

Jealous of a stranger who moved into the neighborhood where you had lived for years.

Someone everyone liked. Someone everyone praised.

But the last straw was Wally's relationship with Pamela.

You'd been in love with Pamela since your theater days together.

Despite his issues, she fell in love with Wally. I hated that. But I hated even more that she didn't leave him, even after learning he hated gambling.

Yimmy began to sweat. His muscles tensed. His breathing became erratic.

Bazt noticed every small gesture. Every slip in his posture.

He knew catching this criminal would be satisfying—but now, he was certain:

This rat was trapped.

"What's wrong, Yimmy? Not going to confess? Maybe we should bring Paola in so you can tell her yourself," Bazt teased.

Yimmy swallowed hard. After a short pause, he spoke.

***

"June 17th, at midnight… everything went just like they said. I took NN and N2 to the casino.

At first, NN didn't want to go, but after a little blackmail, he gave in.

My goal was to get him deeper in debt than me… so Pamela would dump him.

Even with his issues, she loved him. I hated that.

But I hated even more that she didn't leave him, even after realizing he hated gambling.

That night, I planned to make him bet everything and rack up an impossible debt.

I owed money too, but by using NN as bait, the casino would leave me alone.

That would buy me time to escape with Pamela.

But Wally wanted out. Said it was for his wife.

I thought he was joking. But he meant it.

So I did what everyone already knows I did.

I pushed Wally down the stairs…

And then I cut off every one of those filthy fingers he used to touch Pamela."

Yimmy's expression horrified everyone in the room.

Everyone but Bazt.

A sinister grin formed on his face. This… was Yimmy's true face.

"After I was done, I changed into a clean shirt so the blood smell wouldn't give me away…

Then I dumped him in the trash. But he was found faster than I expected."

"You're just a jealous piece of shit. I thought you'd be more fun," Bazt said as he left the room.

***

The Wally case was closed.

Yimmy Adams was sentenced to 43 years in prison for his crimes.

Thanks to Bazt and Alicia, the illegal casino was shut down.

And Pamela could finally live in peace.

Everyone was exhausted. It was time to go home and rest.

Bazt was planning on doing the same.

"And that means we get a week with no new cases," said Officer Smith, rummaging through his locker.

"Yeah, justice is winning. Maybe you'll get more dates with your girl, Bazt," joked Officer Marcus.

"Yeah… I guess so," Bazt replied as he fully opened his locker.

Inside was the usual: his old-fashioned clothes, his hat, and a few notebooks.

But this time, there was something else.

"What's this?" Bazt muttered.

A small note was pinned to his hat. Without hesitation, he grabbed it and read the message.

"I know your secret."

Instantly, Bazt's expression darkened. He glanced at the two officers beside him.

"Oh? What's wrong, Bazt? Lose something?" Smith asked with a smile.

Someone knew Bazt's secret.

Someone knew he was a killer.

And he was going to find out who.

"No… It's nothing," Bazt replied with his usual calm, leaving the room with the note in his pocket.

And he was going to kill them.
