Elysia clicked play on the video.
[The trailer began in darkness, with only Otto's magnetic voice narrating the background.] ["Honkai... a natural disaster that accompanies the development of civilization. It gives birth to monsters known as Honkai Beasts. Those with high Honkai adaptability will be infected and turned into Deadwalkers. When the Honkai energy reaches a certain threshold, a special existence known as a Herrscher is born. Each Herrscher possesses a corresponding authority, and they are all enemies of humanity."] [As Otto's voice faded, the Honkai logo flashed on screen, followed by a heavy, impactful sound.] ["Run faster, that monster is catching up..."] ["Don't... don't go... save me..."] [Panicked voices served as a background score, as a purple shadow let out a piercing, eerie laugh.]
Watching the video, the otaku girl Sirin was completely stunned. She remembered her mom asking her to do some voice-over work for her "stinky uncle's" company. She reached into a bag of chips for a handful, but found it empty.
"Bella!" Sirin shouted.
Hearing her call, the girl who was still cooking, without even taking off her apron, poked her head into Sirin's bedroom. "Sirin, what's wrong?"
"Get me another bag of chips," Sirin demanded affectionately.
"Okay." Bella quickly grabbed a new bag from the fridge, handed it to Sirin, and then hurried back to the kitchen.
Crunch, crunch.
[Another heavy beat.] [February 14, 2000, 9:14 AM. Oulu, Finland.] [Fierce winds began to howl, and dark clouds blotted out the sun. The wind destroyed everything in sight, turning the bustling metropolis into a ruin of civilization in an instant. At the center of the storm, a young girl, who had been sitting with her knees to her chest, stretched out her delicate body, transparent wings sprouting from her back.] [Pseudo-Herrscher of Wind.]
Elysia's jaw dropped. The special effects, a collaboration between Schicksal and Anti-Entropy, were a century ahead of the rest of the world's film technology. The scene was so realistic that Elysia almost believed it was a documentary, not an animation.
[February 14, 2000, 4:30 AM. Astana, Kazakhstan.] [Meteors rained down on the city, sending humanity scattering in terror. The city turned into a fiery hellscape. Schicksal's Central Asia Branch building was snapped in half. A statue of a nun seemed to weep. Atop the statue, a red-haired girl gazed down at the inferno she had created, a smile on her face.] [Pseudo-Herrscher of Flame.]
[February 14, 2000, 12:10 PM. Novosibirsk, Russia.] [A black fog enveloped the city. People screamed in agony. A girl with wings on her back stood lost in the city center. She hugged herself, as if in fear, or perhaps in sorrow for the people.] [Pseudo-Herrscher of Death.]
The chat in Miss Pink Elf♪'s livestream exploded like a drop of water in hot oil. Elysia glanced at the chat and, as expected, it was completely flooded.
[HOLY CRAP, THOSE EFFECTS! Even if the story is complete garbage, I'd pay to see this!] [As expected from a Schicksal and Anti-Entropy collaboration! The budget for these effects must be at least a million, right?!] [That's conservative. At least ten million.]
The trailer continued.
[A soul-shaking dragon's roar echoed. A purple-haired girl swept her hair aside, revealing arrogant, golden eyes. Across from her, a man floated in the air as blue quantum energy began to coalesce behind him.] ["The Second Herrscher, is ready—"] ["—to face the First Herrscher..."] ["—to face the power of Welt?!"]
"I never noticed before, but Welt looks pretty cool," the red-haired Tesla exclaimed, nudging the lazy, blue-haired beauty beside her. "Dr. Einstein, what do you think?"
"Me? I'm watching while sitting down," Einstein replied, her brow furrowed. She didn't know this Yàqīng Schariac. Why, in his script, was the leader of a rival company, Welt, a hero fighting for humanity? And why was the leader of his own company, Otto, a villain despised by the audience? Even with her IQ of 160, Dr. Einstein couldn't figure out what Yàqīng was trying to do. And that kind of person scared her the most.
Unless... he was planning to redeem Otto later? But that didn't make sense either. If Otto were redeemed, his character would completely collapse, turning him into a real clown. Or perhaps, he would create a new character of his own, confident that this character could minimize the negative impact of Otto's villainy?
"Ein, don't overthink it."
A gentle male voice spoke. Einstein felt someone gently rubbing her forehead, which was very comforting, and she let out a soft hum. She knew without looking that it was Joyce, because Welt was still completely engrossed in the video. Glancing at Tesla, who was also captivated, Einstein couldn't help but sigh.
["KILL THE HONKAI! KILL THE HONKAI! KILL THE HONKAI!"] [Amidst a chaotic chorus of male voices, within a towering vortex of fire, a man whose left side had already transformed into a Honkai Beast turned. His figure was obscured by the flames, only the greatsword he wielded, wreathed in fire, was visible.] [The camera suddenly zoomed in on his eyes.] [The whites of his eyes were completely gray, and his golden, slitted pupils were filled with a wildness devoid of any human emotion.] ["KILL THE HONKAI!!!"]
[Standing on a cliff, a beautiful white-haired woman looked at a distant Honkai fission bomb. Tears welled in her eyes, but her expression immediately hardened. She raised a massive blue and white lance high, and her blood condensed to form a spear tip, spattering onto a white flower.] ["Abyss Flower, Sacred Blood Unleashed!"]
[The screen went dark again, and a few lines of text appeared in the center.] ["Do not forget their battle."] ["Every warrior who fights to the death against the Honkai deserves our respect."]
[In the final moments of the video, a montage of shots flashed by:] [Theresa, leaping high with a giant golden cross.] [Welt Yang, taking off his glasses, a trickle of blood at the corner of his mouth, standing tall and defiant.] [Fu Hua in her Azure Empyrea form.] [A group photo of the Snow Wolf squad.] [...]
After the trailer ended, the audience was left breathless for a long time.
[HYPE! SO HYPE!] [When is it coming out? I can't wait to see it!] [Who is that man with the greatsword?! He's so cool! I need all his info in three minutes!!!]
When Elysia came back to her senses, she found that Yàqīng had disconnected from the call. She puffed out her cheeks in a pout.
Yàqīng hadn't hung up on purpose. He was being spammed with calls from a certain short person.
"Yàqīng! Why wasn't there a scene of me being awesome in the trailer?!!!!!"
Yàqīng quickly held the phone away from his ear and said with an apologetic laugh, "Now, now, little Theresa. That's just to make your appearance in the actual movie all the more surprising for everyone."
"You'd better be right!" Theresa warned in a fierce but squeaky voice.
