Chapter 6 - 6. Uncertain Expedition – Briefing for the Dragon’s Legacy

The Grand Hall of Elysium was thick with tension. Merslin and his core companions had gathered to discuss the strategy for securing the long-lost legacy of the dragons. In the center of the table lay a detailed map of the southern territories, the location of the legacy clearly marked.

Merslin pointed to the map and opened the briefing.

"We're preparing to move south to locate the Dragon's Legacy. But the region is unstable—dangerous, even. A conflict between the orcs and the Blackmount Dwarves is intensifying, and it presents serious risks we need to account for."

Elena, taking notes, raised a question."What exactly caused the instability between the orcs and the dwarves? Can you explain the background of their conflict?"

Merslin paused for a moment, then continued.

"Both factions—the orcs and the Blackmount Dwarves—gained independence after the dragons' fall. But instead of finding balance, they became bitter rivals. The orcs, once a scattered people, have unified under a new High Warlord. They've transformed into a disciplined and highly organized military force."

Lisa leaned in over the map."The Blackmount Dwarves have fortified their stronghold in response. Driven by their desire to claim the dragons' treasure, they've strengthened their borders and built defensive fortresses. Tensions are high, and open war could break out at any time."

Serena frowned."So how will this conflict affect our expedition? What should we be most careful about?"

Merslin's face darkened.

"The ongoing conflict could interfere with our route. Both sides are heavily armed and on high alert. Crossing disputed zones could be dangerous, especially if we're mistaken for intruders during a clash."

Elena glanced at the others."Then we need to be extremely cautious. We'll need contingency plans to keep the expedition team safe. Thorough preparation is essential."

Merslin nodded.

"Exactly. Our priorities are as follows:First, we need to continuously monitor the military movements of both factions and chart a route that avoids known hotspots.Second, we must reinforce our expedition's defense capabilities and bring equipment suited for hostile environments.Third, we need to develop strategies to minimize the chance of conflict, especially when moving near active fronts."

Lisa began reorganizing the map."I'll assemble a recon team to gather real-time intel and identify safe passages. We'll also set up a communications line to keep tabs on both factions' movements."

Merslin looked around the room, his expression resolute.

"Good. Once preparations are complete, we begin the mission. Securing the Dragon's Legacy could significantly strengthen our defenses and stabilize our resources. Everyone—carry out your tasks with focus."

As the meeting ended, the companions dispersed, each diving into their assigned roles. The expedition was now in motion, and anticipation stirred throughout the settlement. Though hope ran high, so did the uncertainty. Between orcs, dwarves, and the unknown that awaited in the south, the path ahead remained perilous.

Yet the mission to recover the Dragon's Legacy had begun.

Episode: Ruins of the Blackmount – Wealth for Elysium

Under the looming shadow of Blackmount, Merslin and his companions came to a halt. The jagged peaks pierced the sky like blades—once home to mighty dragons, now reduced to ruins. Deep within these mountains lay the legacy they sought. But what stood before them was no simple prize, and the path was far from safe.

At Merslin's side stood Elena, Serena, Lisa, and Aria—trusted allies who had fought beside him through countless trials. Their mission was clear: secure the resources needed to sustain and strengthen Elysium. Yet this was no mere treasure hunt. They had to navigate a war-torn no-man's-land, avoiding detection by both orcs and dwarves, who continued to monitor the ruins with suspicion and hostility.

At the entrance to the ruins, a massive iron gate stood rusted and worn, yet still imposing—a remnant of the dragons' dominion. Merslin paused, recalling the fateful battle once fought here, before signaling his team forward.

Lisa scanned the surroundings, her blade ready."This place is still dangerous. We could run into traps… or worse."

Serena tightened her grip on her bow."I see something shining up ahead. It could be what we're looking for."

As they crept further down the cavernous path, Merslin whispered to Elena,"This place brings back memories. Slaying the dragon here wasn't easy—but this time, our preparations must go deeper. We have to ensure the orcs and dwarves stay focused on each other, not on us."

Elena nodded."Exactly. As long as they remain at odds, they won't notice us slipping through."

Farther inside, distant war cries echoed—the sound of patrols from both factions. Merslin raised a hand, halting the group.

"We can't be discovered. If they sense we're here, everything falls apart."

Serena pointed to a narrow rock passage."This way—through the fissure. We'll stay out of sight."

The team moved carefully, hugging the shadows, suppressing their movements and breath. Lisa remained alert, ready to fight if needed, but followed Merslin's instruction to avoid conflict whenever possible.

But stealth wasn't enough. They needed the orcs and dwarves to distrust one another—to keep the conflict burning.

Using the terrain, Merslin and his team planted subtle traps, leaving misleading evidence that would imply one side had trespassed upon the other's territory.

Lisa guided an orc patrol toward the dwarves' perimeter, making it appear as if the dwarves had violated their border. The orcs, enraged, prepared to retaliate. The dwarves, spotting orc movement, braced for an incoming attack.

Aria supported the ruse with illusion magic, embedding orc footprints within the dwarves' camp and dwarven marks in orc territory. The mutual suspicion flared higher, pulling attention away from Merslin's group.

Taking advantage of the chaos, the team pressed deeper into the ruins. Finally, they reached a chamber glittering with gold, gemstones, and arcane relics. Serena whistled, wide-eyed.

"Can't believe this was just sitting here… But this isn't all of it, is it?"

Elena shook her head."These are valuable, yes—but the true treasure lies farther below. If it's what I think it is, the dragons hid their greatest legacy deep where no raider could reach it."

Merslin approached a mural etched into the stone wall. Beneath layers of dust, he traced the outline of a hidden sigil.

"This… this is it. A map—leading to the heart of the dragons' vault."

Without hesitation, they decided to follow it. Whatever awaited them deeper in the Blackmount, they would face it—not for gold, but for the future of Elysium.

Episode: The Dragon's Nest – Hidden Legacy

Merslin and his companions pressed deeper into the heart of the Dragon's Nest—a place where, long ago, they had once stood face to face with a living dragon. Now, they had returned not to fight, but to retrieve the legacy the dragon had left behind. And yet, the path was no safer than before—traps and arcane mechanisms still guarded the way.

At the front of the group moved Serena. The Dragon's Nest was the perfect stage for her keen senses and agility. The silence around them was heavy, almost oppressive—but she never let her guard down. Every step she took was deliberate, her ears tuned to the slightest shift in the air.

"Stay alert," she warned in a hushed tone. "This place is more dangerous than it was before."

She stopped. Just ahead, she spotted a faint crack across the stone floor. Barely visible, it concealed a pressure plate—one wrong step, and a massive boulder from above would come crashing down on them.

With careful precision, Serena disarmed the trap, disabling the trigger with steady fingers."It's safe now. Follow me," she whispered, guiding them forward.

Soon, they reached a chamber sealed by a glowing magical barrier. The barrier pulsed with ancient power—it was no ordinary spell. This was a final defense, left behind by the dragon itself.

Serena stepped forward, placing her hand against the barrier."This isn't just magic… the dragon's essence is still within it. But we can break through."

Merslin joined her, eyes closed, attuning himself to the flow of arcane energy."Together," he said quietly, "we can unravel it."

With Serena tracing the barrier's flow and Merslin channeling power into its weak points, the two gradually exposed the core of the spell. Serena's movements became faster, more focused—until finally, the protective veil flickered, then dissolved.

Behind it lay the dragon's hoard—not just treasure, but powerful artifacts from a time when the dragon walked among humans. Each item pulsed with dormant might.

Merslin reached for a helm of pale silver light—the Mindguard, forged to protect the dragon's consciousness from psychic assault. It radiated mental fortitude, a perfect defense against Aetherion's influence.

Lisa found the Dragonshield, crafted from interwoven scales. It shimmered faintly, capable of deflecting even magical strikes. A shield for the front lines.

Serena picked up the Boots of the Gale, imbued with the spirit of dragon wings. With them, her already unmatched speed became near-invisible blur.

Elena uncovered the Sorcerer's Grasp, gloves embedded with arcane runes. They amplified her casting speed and refined her control, enhancing her already formidable magic.

And Aria knelt before the Chalice of Life, a sacred relic used by the dragon to heal allies in battle. Holding it, she felt her healing power surge, capable now of restoring multiple allies at once.

Their hands full with these priceless legacies, the group knew it was time to leave. But danger still lingered—orc and dwarf patrols had begun circling the perimeter of the nest.

Serena took the lead again, eyes sharp. She charted a silent escape route, weaving through the natural terrain, using the landscape to avoid detection.

"If they see us, it's over. We have to make them fight each other again," she whispered.

With practiced hands, she triggered a minor trap—just enough to cause a noise in the orc patrol's path. Instinctively, the orcs assumed dwarven interference. The dwarves, alerted to orc movement, readied their defenses. Suspicion thickened.

Using the ensuing confusion, the group slipped away from the nest—unseen.

Armed now with the dragon's relics, Merslin and his companions prepared for their return to Elysium. Each of them had grown stronger, more capable. And now, with new power in their hands and renewed resolve in their hearts, they were ready to face Aetherion.

This was no longer just survival. It was preparation for war.And they would not face it empty-handed.
