" Ok, uh, lets, uh, check our stuff and check the house for weapons. There's got to be a gun here. " Jim said as he tried to understand this shit hole they found themselves in.
" If there's a gun here, it better be a damn cannon! Did you not see the size of that thing?! Its the size of a freaking moose for god's sake's! " George exclaimed.
" Why did it do that to Clair? " He asked as the image of seeing that reindeer kill Clair.
" She was going to the barn. There was reindeer skeletons in there. " Raven said, she too was still trying to calm down and understand this.
" Like the one the in the den? " George asked in disbelief.
" Yes. It was the other reindeer from the story. They were in their stalls with their names on the doors. The human skeleton must be Nick, I saw a bullet hole in his shirt where his heart would've been. " Raven answered.
" There's no way that is Nick! It's a prop with clothes made to look like him for local thrills! "
" Really George? How do you explain Blitzen out there? There was one stall empty and it was his! That barn is filled with the other seven that were killed and butchered. As for Nick in the den, Blitzen must've dragged him in here and somehow set him up to look like he was watching tv. "
" Do you hear yourself?! A reindeer dragged a dead body into this cabin and set it up to look like it was watching tv?! "
" Well how else is there a human skeleton here?! "
" Because it's a fucking deer! A deer Raven! How is a deer supposed to do any of this?! "
" Maybe because it's a very smart deer! The towns folk said that Blitzen was a very smart reindeer! You saw what he did to the car! He knew that we would use that to escape and he took that advantage from us! "
" It still doesn't make any sense! "
" Let't just take a breath and focus on finding something to defend ourselves with. " Jim interevened finally. He turned to George, putting a hand to his shoulder,
" We can come back for Clair once we get away. Alright? "
" Yeah. Yeah. "
" I don't think getting away is going to do us any good Jim. "
" I'm trying to be optomistic here Raven. "
" And I'm trying to be realistic Jim. Those hunters were killed at the lodge just outside of town, 10 miles away from here. Blitzen somehow tracked them down and killed them. Just like he killed Clair. He'll kill all of us not just the one who disturbed Nick's remains or the one who tried to go into the barn. "
" What does that have to do with anything? "
" George, were not listening to me? That barn has got the other seven reindeer in there, still in their stalls where they were killed and butchered. Nick had been killed in that barn as well, but this cabin was his home. It's why Blitzen brought him back here rather than leave him out there. He is protecting both this cabin and barn because his loved ones are here and he won't let anyone take them from him. "
" If this deer as smart as they say, then perhaps, now this sounds crazy, maybe we can talk... "
" Are you hearing yourself now? Talk to a deer?! "
" They said he's very smart, he understood when someone talked to him. He was also able to escape his stall by opening the latch, it's why he's alive and the others and Nick are dead. " Raven said.
" I'd rather we kill it and then get the hell out of this place. " George replied back.
" Then let's look for weapons like I've been saying, Raven, can you check our bags for anything that we could use while George and I check the house? We should have enough food for a week. "
" A week? In this hell hole? " George asked in disbelief.
" We shouldn't be here that long George. Not if we can kill that thing outside. " Jim replied as they walked out of the living room.
Raven checked the bags to make sure all their food and water was all there and not back in the wrecked van. Thankfully it was all there. So she decided to go looking around the cabin as well,
" Guys! Everything is here, I'm going to go look for a weapon as well! " She called out to them.
" Okay! " They replied from the kitchen.
She went up stairs and found a bathroom with a shower, all of which had seen better days, she tried the faucets and water came through, dirty at first and sputtering before clearing out and running clear, it was cold, as there was no power and she was thankful that Jim had brought the generator in first before bringing in the food and equipment. Hopefully they can have hot showers while trying to figure out to get out of this shit show.
She left the bathroom and went down the hall and found a bedroom, she got a brief flash of Nick getting up and grabbing his gun to go outside stop the killing of his deer in the barn.
His gun...Oh god, it's back in the barn!
" Maybe he had another gun we could use? " Raven spoke outloud to herself as she looked around the room, looking for a rifle or another handgun, she checked the drawers, under ther bed, under the mattress, the closet, the chest of drawers, but there was no other weapon, just the ammo for the handgun in the barn somewhere.
" Maybe he kept it in another room? " Again Raven spoke out loud to herself as she searched another room, but that one was a study filled with books, records, and photos of Nick with his reindeer. There was one photo of a woman, she must've been his late wife.
She searched the desk there and even looked for fake books that could hide a gun, false bottoms of the drawers, but nothing.
She walked back down the stairs and found another door that led down to the basement, but since the lights were off, she couldn't go down there, lucky she had flashlight in her bag in the living room where she found the guys also getting their lights, Jim had also picked up the small generator that was fully charged and ready to use.
" Looks like we had the same idea. " She commented.
" No weapon either? " Jim asked.
" There is a gun. But... "
" But what Raven? " George asked.
" It's out in the barn. Nick took it with him to try to stop his deer from being killed. "
" Maybe the gun's with his body? " George asked.
" Did you see a gun on his body? Or in front of it? " Raven asked.
" No, but I'm going to go check there while you two check the basement and hook up the Gen. "
They hesitated for a moment but then went to check to see if there were any weapons in the basement they could use and hook up the generator.
" There's water here, but you need to let it run through the pipes for a minute or two before it clears up. " Raven informed Jim as they made their way down to the basement, flashlights on and facing out in front of them so they wouldn't trip down the stairs and hurt themselves.
There wasn't anything in the basement to use as a weapon either, there was spare work handles for shovels, hoes, rakes, an old roll of duct tape.
" Were there any knives in the kitchen? " Raven asked.
" A butcher's block yeah, plenty of knives. " Jim answered as they found the electric box and began to set up the generator,
" We can't use this all the time maybe every few hours to save the battery life. "
" Why not fix it to run on a loop? Hook it up and let it charge itself. " Raven suggested.
" Good idea. "
" As for these handles and tape, we can fashion spears with the knives upstairs. "
" Well aren't we a regular McGuyer. "
" Use what you got if you don't have what you need. "
" Indeed. "
Once they were done with setting up the generator, they gathered the handles and duct tape, carrying them up stairs and to the kitchen. George met them there, frustrated that he hadn't found anything in the den where Nick's remains were.
" Looks like we're going to have to find a way to get that gun in the barn. " He said.
" Well, step one is already in the works, we are making spears with knives and duct tape. "
" This is great! Now we have a way to kill that bastard! " George exclaimed grabbing one of the fashioned spears.
And before Jim and Raven knew it, he was running out the back door with it.
" No George! Come back! " They shouted and went after him, but they were too late, George was already facing Blitzen, he cussed the beast out for killing Clair and charged at him with his spear, Blitzen merely stepped to the side and gored him in the arm.
As George screamed in pain from the stab, Jim thinking fast while the beast was distracted threw hiw own spear at Blitzen, it struck him in the shoulder, the beast roared in both pain and anger, causing him to launch George up and back over to the back steps.
Raven and Jim quickly went to help him up and back inside as Blitzen fought with the spear in his shoulder.
They got George to stairs as Blitzen pulled the spear out of his shoulder using his teeth; the handle was long enough for him to this, tossing the spear off to the side before glaring at the humans that had dared to attack him, he scuffed the ground and began to charge at them again, they quickly got the wounded human in side before he could get them.
Inside the cabin he could hear the humans shouting at the wounded one and the wounded one shouting back about the human woman that he killed first when they arrived here.
They shouted a bit more before the wounded human shouted in pain again before giving whimpers, they must have tended to his injury, no matter, they all will soon enough, he will just need to be patient.
