Chapter 4 - Level Up

After an unknown amount of time, the girl, Alice, finally stopped crying. But she didn't leave as she was still hugging him.

Eric was still stroking her hair and Alice seemed to be enjoying it, as she sank into his chest more, even making herself more comfortable.

He smiled when he saw this. He would love to possibly stay like this for a while as he was also enjoying how her hair felt in his hand, but he can't. Also, his Starter Pack was waiting.

"Umm, Alice?" He called her name softly.

"Yes, Young Master?" She answered sweetly.

"I feel very weak right now. can you please get off my chest?" He asked.

Though he would love to feel more of her soft ahem, he was starting to find it hard to breathe.

Alice quickly stood up and gave a short bow, with an apologetic look on her face.

"Alice is sorry, Young Master. I was so happy to see you alive that I forgot about your health," she said with a sad face.

Eric smiled when he saw this.

"Don't beat yourself up, Alice. It's fine."

"No! Alice was wrong, Young Master. I was a bad maid. I didn't watch over you properly and allowed you to take your life. And after you woke up, I didn't consider your health, and burdened you," she said with an even sadder face, as she was close to crying.

Eric was slightly taken aback by her reaction but he felt that he could understand why she was reacting so.

He had no idea what to do and he did the best thing he could think of.

"I'm sorry for worrying you, Alice. Don't beat yourself up again, okay?" He said, and patted her head.

Alice seemed to love this as she smiled.

"Young Master, how do you feel now? Do you need me to call a Healer or a Priest?" She asked with a curious, and worried expression.

"Healer? Priest?" Eric asked in confusion.

"Yes. To see if the poison is still in your body. The poison you took was a 5★ poison, Silent Requiem, made with the 6★ plant, Daggerleaf Hemlock. It kills within seconds. It's by a miracle that you're still alive," Alice said, with a very worried look.

Eric nodded slowly, as he finally understood how the original body's owner had died.

'He was probably tired of being called trash by his friends and decided to take his life.'

As for the poison? It was pretty obvious that it was no longer in his system or he would had already died to it and revived.

'What a waste,' Eric thought, at the loss of testing out his system's mechanics.

He turned his attention to Alice and saw that she still had that worried look on her face. He felt that she won't stop worrying until the Healer or Priest checks him.

"Ok, Alice. You can call them," he said.

"Yes, Young Master. I will get a Healer. Please don't do anything while I'm gone," she said, and rushed out of his room.

With Alice gone, Eric could finally do what he had impatiently been wanting to do.

Without wasting a second, he accessed his inventory.

[Do you want to open the Starter Pack?]

[Yes] [No]

"Yes."

[Opening Starter Pack]

[You received 100 Achievement Points]

[You received 50 Stat Points]

[You received 8★ skill: Absolute Analysis]

"Not bad. Not bad at all," Eric smiled, looking quite satisfied with what he got.

The next thing he did was to allocate the Stat Points. He was also to see how he can use the Achievement Points.

Since he got 50 Stat Points and he has five attributes, he decided to divide it evenly, allocating 10 Stat Points to each of them.

Immediately after distributing the stat, Eric received a notification.

[Ding!]

[You leveled up!]

Eric was surprised by this. He never really expected to level up that easily. He had thought that he will have to experience at least a couple of death before doing so.

He turned to his body and assessed to see any improvements but even without doing that, he could feel a difference.

The weakness he was feeling all over his body disappeared. He noticed that he now have more energy compared to before.

His body felt lighter and when he clenched his fists, he felt raw strength packed into it.

"This is nice," he chuckled.

He summoned the system's screen to see what had changed.

....

"My rank went to 2★." Eric smiled.

He has no idea how the leveling system works and he was very curious about it.

"System, how does the leveling system work?"

[When you acquire your attributes increased beyond the cumulative range of a rank, you level up. For 2★, the range is 50-99 stat points. Your attributes currently have cumulative of 93 stat points,] The system explained.

"That's actually simple. Is the range fixed? Do I level up with every 100 stat points?" Eric asked.

[No, Host. The range increases with each rank. Also, you're the only person in the whole world that can view their stats and freely distributed their stat points.]

Eric wasn't actually surprised by this. But it did feel nice being special.

But he didn't dwell on it too much and let it get to his head.

"System, how do I use the Achievement Points?" He asked.

[You do not have enough Achievement Points to level up your current skill. You need 100 more.]

"Sigh... I guess it will have to wait till later then. For now, I should test my strength and familiarise myself with this house and the world," Eric said to himself.

He got out of the emperor bed and put on thr pair of footwear beside his bed. The footwear has the appearance of a bedroom footwear and it felt very soft, and comfortable.

He looked around the huge room and he saw a tall mirror at the corner of the room, and he walked towards it. He was curious to see his appearance.

Eric was quite surprised when he his reflection in the mirror.

Staring back at him in the mirror were two sharp brown eyes, a small nose, thin lips, and a diamond-cut face framed by medium-length black hair that would make anyone call him beautiful.

"An eye candy for sure," he smiled.

Besides his good looks, he was tall, standing at 5'9". He also has a lean frame. If not leaner than normal.

Done with checking out himself, Eric walked to the huge double door of his room and pushed it open.

The door slowly opened up to a empty hallway that seems to stretch as far as the high could see.

Eric slowly stepped out of his room and looked around. He started walking down the hallway.

He came across another double door and he curiously opened it, and he saw a room huge room that was nearly empty save for the multiple shelves that barely had any books.

'I wonder if there's a book that has information on his world,' he thought to himself, and walked towards them.

Eric noticed that the shelves was arranged according to a major topic. There was History, Politics, Plants, Alchemy, etc.

The other shelves were empty. Mostly the skills but the History's was stocked with books.

Eric picked one of the history and read the bold title on its hardcover. He has no idea if he would be able to understand this new world's language but as his eyes fell on the title, he immediately did.

Now, that he thought of it, he did understand what Alice was saying.

"History of the Skyrend Kingdom. What a name," Eric laughed, reading the title of the book.

He opened the book, sat down on the floor and started reading.
