Chapter 12: Building the Web: Arrows and Agents

[SYSTEM MESSAGE: CURRENT TP: 750. SKILL: ENHANCED SUPER-SPEED (50-100 MPH), ADVANCED MARKSMANSHIP, ENHANCED COMBAT PROWESS (UNARMED). INVENTORY: MARK II BOOT REPULSOR (PROTOTYPE), STEVE ROGERS' WWII DOG TAG.]

With Captain America cautiously on board, my focus shifted back to the Arrowverse, specifically to Star City and the brooding, perpetually troubled vigilante known as the Green Arrow. Oliver Queen was a different beast entirely. Where Steve was defined by his unwavering moral code, Oliver was forged in the fires of trauma and moral ambiguity. He operated in the shadows, distrusted almost everyone, and saw the world in shades of grim utilitarianism. Getting through to him would require a different kind of finesse, less about integrity and more about undeniable utility.

"Okay, Adam, Oliver Queen. The man who thinks a smile is a sign of weakness and emotional vulnerability is a supervillain. This isn't going to be easy. No philosophical debates, no historical documents. This is about results. About showing him you can help him save his city, his friends, and maybe, just maybe, himself. And absolutely no telling him about his future children. That would just confuse him. Or make him even more depressed."

My primary objective with Oliver was to gain his cautious acceptance as a valuable, if enigmatic, asset, and to subtly push him towards more collaborative efforts, preparing for the eventual multiversal crossovers. I started by spending 100 TP from my current balance (750 TP) to purchase a "Prototype Interdimensional Communicator Schematic" from the System Market. This wasn't a finished device, but a blueprint for advanced, stable inter-dimensional communication, designed to integrate with existing technological frameworks. This was for Cisco, to accelerate his work, but also as a future bridge between the Arrowverse and MCU.

[SYSTEM MESSAGE: TP EXPENDITURE: 100. ITEM PURCHASED: PROTOTYPE INTERDIMENSIONAL COMMUNICATOR SCHEMATIC.]

"This schematic is going to blow Cisco's mind. And potentially lead to a few exciting explosions in STAR Labs. But it's worth it. Reliable cross-dimensional communication is paramount. How else are the Avengers and Justice League going to coordinate their potluck dinners? Or, you know, save the universe from cosmic threats."

My TP was now 650.

I decided on a strategy of indirect intervention, then a direct, evidence-based approach. Oliver wouldn't trust someone who just showed up claiming to know things. He'd trust someone who proved they knew things.

I found my opportunity during a typical Star City night. Oliver and his team (Diggle and Felicity, at this point) were tracking a new, magically-inclined threat: Damien Darhk and his organization, H.I.V.E. My meta-knowledge told me Darhk was a ruthless magic-user, and his powers were a huge curveball for Oliver, who typically dealt with street-level criminals and trained assassins. Oliver was struggling, his usual tactics proving ineffective against Darhk's dark arts.

I portaled into a shadowy alleyway near a H.I.V.E. safe house Oliver was planning to raid. I waited until Oliver, as the Green Arrow, made his move. He infiltrated the building, moving with his usual deadly precision, but Darhk's magic users were already prepared, ambushing him. Oliver found himself momentarily outmatched, struggling against unseen forces.

This was my cue. I moved with my Enhanced Super-Speed, a blur in the dim light, slipping past Darhk's magically-empowered thugs. Using my Advanced Marksmanship (now intuitively integrated into my movements), I disarmed a few of them with precise, non-lethal shots from a discarded taser I'd picked up, targeting specific neural points on their suits. Then, leveraging my Enhanced Combat Prowess (Unarmed), I engaged another group in close quarters, striking with calculated precision, knocking them out with incapacitating blows, avoiding their attacks with fluid, almost prescient dodges. I wasn't there to steal Oliver's thunder, just to tip the scales just enough. I was a phantom, an unexpected element.

Oliver, caught off guard by the sudden, silent assistance, paused mid-fight, momentarily distracted by the incredibly efficient, shadowy figure darting through the room, neutralizing targets with uncanny precision. He didn't get a clear look at me. Before he could process what was happening, I opened a small portal behind me and vanished, leaving him to deal with the now severely depleted enemy force.

"Okay, Adam, that was a subtle intervention. Very subtle. Like a brick to the face, but a very, very fast brick to the face. He'll be scratching his head, wondering if he's getting a new meta-ally or if his brain's finally going to mush from too many head injuries. Perfect."

Later that night, I made my move. I sent an anonymous, encrypted message to Felicity Smoak's private comms channel (easily acquired with my enhanced intel skills), a cryptic message that outlined a specific weakness of Darhk's magic: its reliance on a "conduit" or "focus," and a hint about the specific type of energy resonance that could disrupt it. It was too specific for a lucky guess, too detailed for random intel. It was designed to make Oliver and Felicity wonder.

The next evening, I portaled to a secluded rooftop overlooking the Arrow-cave. I waited until Oliver was alone, brooding, as was his wont, probably reviewing combat footage of my ghostly appearance.

"You're wondering who helped you last night," I stated, stepping out of the shadows, my voice calm.

Oliver spun, an arrow already nocked, his bow drawn and aimed at my chest in a single, fluid motion. He was faster than I expected, even with my enhanced perception. "Who are you? How did you find me?" he demanded, his voice a low, dangerous growl.

"Relax, Oliver," I said, raising my hands placatingly. "I'm not here to fight. Just to talk. And perhaps, to trade. My name is Adam. And I helped you last night because you needed it. And because I believe you're on the right side of something much bigger than just Star City's crime. I'm a broker. Of information. Of… possibilities. And I know about Damien Darhk. More than you can imagine."

Oliver's arrow remained aimed, but a flicker of intense curiosity, mixed with his usual suspicion, crossed his face. "Damien Darhk? How do you know about him? He's barely a whisper in the underworld. And how did you move like that? Are you a metahuman?"

"Let's just say I have a knack for being in the right place at the right time, with the right information," I said vaguely. "And my abilities are… unique. Not quite metahuman, not quite alien. Just… adaptable. And the intel I provided about Darhk's magic? The 'conduit' and 'energy resonance' details? That wasn't a guess, Oliver. That was knowledge. Knowledge gleaned from places you can barely imagine. Worlds where magic is far more prevalent, and its weaknesses are well documented."

I brought up a holographic projection from my inventory, a simplified schematic based on my Multiversal Threat Assessment Data Package. It depicted a theoretical device that could disrupt magical energy by leveraging specific vibrational frequencies, a concept far beyond current Star City tech. "This is a basic theoretical framework for disrupting Darhk's power. It's a start. Something to guide Felicity's research. It's from a… particularly advanced parallel reality where similar magical threats exist. Consider it a cosmic cheat sheet."

Oliver stared at the schematic, his eyes narrowing, his mind undoubtedly analyzing the tactical implications. He was a pragmatist. This was useful.

"And what do you want for this 'knowledge'?" he asked, his voice still guarded, but the edge of hostility had softened slightly.

"A simple exchange," I said, a slight smile. "I'm building a collection. Of unique items from unique individuals. A symbol of your dedication. I want a non-lethal specialty arrow. Not just any arrow. One that represents your ingenuity. Perhaps a trick arrow that relies on cleverness, not just force. A symbol of the mind behind the bow."

He lowered his bow slightly, but didn't put it away. He studied me for a long moment, clearly trying to find the angle, the con, the hidden agenda. But there was none. Just a very strange request for a very strange piece of information.

"You want a trick arrow?" he finally scoffed, a hint of his characteristic dry wit. "Not my fortune? Not my identity? Just an arrow?"

"Your identity is famously well-guarded, and your fortune is probably tied up in a dozen shell corporations anyway," I replied, shrugging. "An arrow, Oliver. A symbol. A piece of history. What do you say? Deal?"

He considered it, then slowly unclipped a specialized arrow from his quiver. It looked like a bola arrow, designed to entangle rather than pierce. "Alright, 'Broker.' You're the strangest ally I've ever encountered. But your intel… it lines up with some anomalies Felicity and I have been chasing. Consider it a down payment. But don't think for a second I trust you. Not yet." He tossed the arrow. I caught it smoothly.

A familiar surge, this time sharpening my spatial awareness, my perception of my surroundings. I felt an intuitive understanding of cover, concealment, flanking maneuvers, and the optimal routes through an urban labyrinth. It was like I could instantly map out an entire city block in my mind, identifying every possible advantage and disadvantage. This complemented my existing skills perfectly. I was becoming a truly formidable, if still subtle, force multiplier.

"Pleasure doing business, Oliver," I said, pocketing the arrow. "And trust, like a good bow, takes time to string. But we'll get there. The world's getting bigger, and weirder. You'll need all the help you can get. And speaking of help, tell Felicity I'll be in touch. I think I have something that will revolutionize her comms tech. Something truly next-level."

I opened a small portal and stepped through, leaving Oliver alone on the rooftop, staring at the empty space where I'd been, the schematic for magical disruption hovering briefly before fading from his sight, leaving him with only his thoughts and the strange reality of his new "broker."

"Alright, Adam. You've got Cap, and you've got Oliver. Two of the hardest nuts to crack. My TP is at 650 + 200 = 850. Things are going well. The stage is being set for the grand team-up. Next, the actual team-up, and some serious upgrades."
