Somewhere long ago… or never at all.
The room was burning, but she didn't run.
She clutched the doll tighter against her chest, the hem of her velvet dress soaked in blood, not her own. Smoke curled like fingers through the rafters, and outside, someone was screaming her name.
He promised.He swore he'd come back.
But promises meant nothing to the dead.
She staggered across the room, eyes wild, the flames dancing across the cracked wallpaper. The doll's painted smile didn't flinch, even as ash settled like snow into its glassy eyes.
