Chapter 26 - Tony Stark

Tony Stark stood in the center of his workshop, the dim glow of countless arc reactors and holographic schematics illuminating the room. In his hand, he still held the small device his father had given him—the key to a hidden sanctuary, a base built beyond the constraints of time itself by Akira. The weight of it felt heavy, not just in his palm, but deep in his chest. It was more than technology; it was a lifeline, a promise, a doorway to the man he had missed for so many years.

Steve Rogers and Akira watched him quietly, understanding the storm of emotions swirling inside Tony. For so long, Tony had been the man who built the future alone. Now, for the first time, the past had come calling—offering answers, closure, and maybe even redemption.

Akira finally broke the silence, his voice calm but insistent. "Tony, what will you do next? Will you use this device to reach your father's base? Or would you rather know more about the place first—the sanctuary where your father has been waiting all these years?"

Tony looked up, meeting Akira's steady gaze. The question wasn't just about logistics—it was about trust, about readiness. Could he face his father again on unfamiliar terms? Could he step into a world hidden in time's folds, a place so far removed from the chaos of his life?

"I… I don't know yet," Tony admitted, the vulnerability in his voice unexpected even to himself. "There's so much I don't understand. If I just activate this thing without knowing what I'm stepping into… what if it's a trap? Or worse, what if it's a place I'm not ready to face?"

Steve nodded knowingly. "You don't have to rush this. You've lived decades trying to make up for lost time. Now, you have to decide how to use the time you've been given."

Akira smiled softly. "That's why I'm here. I can show you everything—the base, the technology, the history of what's kept your father safe. You don't have to go in blind."

Tony's fingers tightened around the device. "Show me. I need to see it before I jump in."

With a fluid motion, Akira raised his hand and tapped the air, summoning a three-dimensional map of the hidden base. It hovered between them, a swirling construct of light and steel. The base was immense—more than a fortress. It was a haven suspended outside normal reality, nestled in a pocket of time where nothing could age, nothing could destroy.

"This is the future," Akira explained. "A place I built with the help of your father. He guided me, even in exile, sending knowledge and blueprints through the ages. It's shielded from interference by temporal barriers, and it operates independently of Earth's timeline."

Tony's eyes traced the contours of the base—laboratories, living quarters, vast libraries filled with knowledge that could reshape the world.

"Why build something like this?" Tony asked quietly. "Why not come back to me sooner?"

Akira's gaze met his. "Because interfering with the timeline is dangerous. Your father was trapped, yes, but even more, he knew that his presence could change events in ways no one could predict. The balance had to be preserved."

Steve stepped forward. "It's a sacrifice that few understand. Howard chose exile to protect not just his family, but reality itself."

Tony's mind raced, the weight of that responsibility settling like a stone in his gut. "So, I have twenty-four hours to spend with him here, but after that, he goes back to this place?"

"Yes," Akira replied. "But this isn't just a prison. It's a treasure trove. Knowledge, technology, plans for the future—everything your father left for you."

Tony swallowed hard. "Then this isn't just about reconnecting. It's about what comes next. About carrying that legacy forward."

Akira nodded. "Exactly. But first, you need to be ready. The journey won't be easy. The base is vast, and your father has been alone there for a long time. You'll find answers, but also questions."

Steve looked at Tony with a steady gaze. "Remember, Tony—this is your chance to heal. To understand your father, and yourself. Take it slow. We'll be here when you're ready."

Tony glanced at the device in his hand again, then back at the holographic base floating before him. The future and the past converged in this moment, and the choice lay with him.

"Alright," Tony said finally, determination hardening his voice. "Show me everything. Then, when I'm ready, I'll open the door."

Akira smiled, the faintest hint of pride in his expression. "Good. Because what you're about to see will change everything you thought you knew."

As Akira began to walk Tony and Steve through the intricacies of the base—its defenses, its labs, the messages and recordings Howard had left—Tony felt something he hadn't in years: hope.

The hope of a new beginning. Of answers long denied. Of a family reunited not just in memory, but in reality.

The workshop faded around them as the holograms grew brighter, a glimpse into a sanctuary frozen in time, waiting for the son to return.

Tony clenched the device once more and looked up at Steve and Akira.

"This is more than just a reunion," he said softly. "It's a chance to finally move forward."

Steve smiled, placing a reassuring hand on Tony's shoulder. "Then let's make sure you're ready."

Akira's eyes shone with quiet certainty. "And when you're ready, the door will be open."
