Chapter 35 - Charjabug

Evan's Journal

Month 2, Day 5

Location: Paniola Town, Pokémon Center

Time: 08:00 AM

Today, we are at the Pokémon Centre in Paniola Town, ready to tackle Route 5. I've identified a significant flaw in our training: my Pokémon and I have been prioritising self-created moves over their standard moves. Some may think this is acceptable, but I've realised it's not. I mistakenly believed that as my Pokémon matured, their moves would unlock automatically, but that's not how it works. The only things that unlock are their abilities to use these moves; they must train to master them.

I've been approaching this as if it were a game, forgetting that we are in the real world. This morning, I trained Trixie to effectively use Gust, and I focused Thorn on mastering Twin Needle. Grip had a focused practice session with Bite.

- Thorn is level 21.

- Trixie is level 20.

- Grip is level 20.

"Alright, Grip, concentrate the Dark-type energy around your mandibles. Now, execute the biting action. This move is called Bite," I said.

"Gruu," Grip responded while attempting the move, but he failed.

"Try again."

For a brief moment, Dark-type energy accumulated around his mandibles before fading away.

"Once more," I instructed.

This time, Grip nailed it.

"Well done, Grip!" I cheered.

Before I could finish my thought, his body started to glow. That warm, radiant light—the undeniable sign of evolution—took me by surprise. I stood in awe as his form transformed, becoming more compact and rectangular, with sparks of electricity crackling faintly around his new shell. When the light subsided, Grip had evolved into a Charjabug. He looked at me with bright, gleaming eyes, still adjusting to this transformation. I couldn't help but smile.

Now

My Pokémon are advancing rapidly compared to other Bug-types, largely due to Bugforce. Questions have been raised by Professor Kukui and Mr. Bramble, but they haven't dug deeply enough. I'm also diligently caring for the egg; my Aura Sight revealed that it has both Bug and Fighting-type auras. The only Pokémon that comes to mind with both types is Heracross.

That's a matter for future Evan to tackle. For now, I'm using my Bugforce approach with this egg, just like I do with my other Pokémon, despite sensing that this one may be injured. It is gradually recovering under my care with Bugforce.

Now is not the time for concern. I'm packing my gear, checking my Poké Balls, and gearing up for our next destination: Route 6. Here we come!
