Cassian took a step forward, shrinking the distance between us. On instinct, I backed away, refusing to let him close the gap.
"With who?" He asked, no context, no preface, just raw demand.
"Why should that concern you?" I replied coldly.
"Duke Castanier?" He pressed on, ignoring my question entirely, wrapped up in his own roiling emotions.
He continued advancing, his amber eyes glowing with a pressure that nearly suffocated. I stood my ground, unfazed, a smirk curling on my lips as I baited him further.
"Since when do you care about my affairs?"
My back bumped into the wooden counter behind me, and Cassian took full advantage, planting both hands on either side of me, boxing me in.
Honestly, I'm getting a little tired of this overused motif.
"Just because I'm no longer your little pet, I'm not allowed to care?" He growled, breath warm and heavy against my skin.
