Chapter 10 - Chapter 9: The Mishap

I rush down the hill towards the branches I cut off of the railings and posts earlier. I get to the pile of branches and grab an armful, rushing back up the hill. I am out of breath and panting from the quick burst of speed to get the branches.

I put one branch into the mini fire at a time. Waiting till it lights to put in more. After I put in an armful of the branches. The fire is now roaring perfect to stay warm and also harden my spear. I grab my spear and hold the tip over the flame watching as the color of the spear tip changes color. The spear time gets slightly blackened from the soot of the fire. It also gets lighter in color showing that it is drying.

After the few minutes I take to dry my spear, my mouth is parched. I need to get more water from the creek and maybe get some berries for tomorrow morning. I think that would be a good idea. I take my spear and make my way down to the creek to get water.

The suns are slowly setting, casting shadows in the forest around me. I don't have much time left till it is pitch black and I can barely see. I made it to the creek and drank some water. Then I head to the forest on my left to grab some of the cyan berries. I get to the first multi berry bush and start to grab some berries. So I can have some for the morning.

As I go to reach down I see movement out of the corner of my eye. Something lunges at me. Out of reflex I put my spear in front of me. Time slows down as I see a maw of a wolf-like creature open and lunge at me. The wolf's mouth bit down on my spear. From the momentum of the lunge I fall down with the wolf on top of me. It snarling at me, nose scrunched up and saliva dripping from its mouth. It scratches my chest and legs. Pain radiating immediately from the scratches.

But I can't worry about those at the moment. My right hand lets go of the spear, the bottom of the spear hits the ground. Twisting the head of the wolf a little bit. I quickly try and jab my thumb in the eye of the wolf. Before I can do that the wolf lets go of the spear and jumps back pushing off my body. Causing more pain to happen. It goes to bite my leg but I quickly kick at its snout. I luckily hit it and it whimpered back.

I try to sit up so that I can face this wolf, but it doesn't give me time. It lunges at me again. I put the tip of my spear in front of me so that the wolf can't get to me just yet. It growls at me as it strafes to the left trying to get an opening to attack me. I get to my knees as I keep the spear tip pointed at the wolf.

It constantly snarls and growls at me, saliva dripping from its mouth. Slowly trying to circle me. I reposition myself so that I am facing the wolf. Quickly I jump to my feet so that I can have better footing. The wolf takes the quick second I pause when I stand up to lunge at me again.

I bring my spear back so I have more distance to thrust. And thrust I do, I manage to hit the wolf when it lunged at me again. I speared it in its open mouth. A sickening squelch and crunch happened as I hit the back of it's throat. I felt my spear have resistance and then came to a stop. But the momentum of the wolf pushed the spear out of my hands. It crashed into me and knocked me to the ground again.

Feeling wet droplets on my face as the wolf's head is above mine. It is trying to bite me but can't thanks to the spear. It thrashes around trying to dislodge the spear but all it does is make the bleeding worse. I try to push the wolf off me so I don't get hurt more. I just managed to get the wolf off me, I think it forgot about me for a second. I thought it would be much harder due to the wolf trying to kill me.

I roll away from the wolf so that I don't get scratched anymore. I see that the wolf is getting much weaker, a pool of blood starting to form under it. My whole body is too covered in blood. I don't take the chance of this wolf breaking free to attack me again. I rush over and jump on it's back. I wrap my hands around its neck and squeeze hard. I feel it getting weaker in my arms but still thrashing around. Trying to get the spear and me off it.

After what feels forever but probably just a few seconds I feel the wolf stop moving. I feel the breaths stop going into its body... It's finally dead. I roll off the body of the wolf panting. I lay on the ground next to the dead wolf trying to get my breath and bearing back at me. I feel my body shaking probably from the adrenaline dumping. Then I feel my wounds start to hurt from the scratches.

"Ugh" My whole body hurts, and I am exhausted. I slowly get up and grab my spear. I have to put my foot on the wolf's head to get the spear out. It's all sticky with blood, still wet. I take a better look at the wolf. It's about the size of a grey wolf on earth, fur blue in color. The thing that shocked me the most was how emaciated and skinny the wolf was. It looked like it hadn't eaten in months.

The reason it must have attacked me is because it was hungry. I look down at myself, baggy tunic all cut up and blooded. My trousers are the same way. Also my arms and legs are still skinny and not like I have eaten for a long time. I guess me and the wolf weren't that different after all... I just won today but maybe tomorrow it will be my time. It won't. I have goals and things I NEED to live for.

I hobble my way to the creek using my spear as a walking stick. I get to the creek, the suns almost down without giving me much light. I take off my clothes and try to wash out the blood the best I can. I know they are already in tatters but I would rather have tattered clothes than nothing. After washing my clothes I start to clean up my body. Washing off the blood from the wolf and my wounds. My wounds sting when I go to clean them, but I know I have to. I can't get an infection, if I do it's all over for me.

My wounds bleed a little continuously. I got to stop the bleeding, I know that aspen trees have some coagulating properties. Well the white powdery stuff on the tree. At least that is the case on earth, but it can't hurt to try the aspen trees here. I put my tattered clothes back on, grab my spear and make my way to the flakes I left by the lake.

I grab a flake and head to one of the pink aspen trees nearby. Once I get to the tree I start to scrape off the pink powdery-like substance. I put my finger beneath where the powder is being scrapped off. Once there is a small coating on my finger I put it on the cuts on my chest. I do this multiple times to get all my cuts. Both on my chest and legs.

Once I see that the bleeding has stopped I make my way slowly back to the cave. As I make my way back it goes pitch black in the forest. No light coming from the moon to illuminate the forest. Just darkness everywhere. I am thankful now for my dark vision skill. It makes the darkness not so dark, helping me see more than I normally would. I get closer to the steep hill and I see faint light coming from the top. Must be from the embers of the fire I made.

I got to the top of the hill, thankfully I put in a railing or I would really be struggling more than I did. Once here I put my spear next to the cave hole. I slowly climb down the hole, my body hurting and making it take longer than normal. Once at the bottom I crawl down the tunnel making it to the large cave room. I crawl in more and get really sleepy, but before I fall asleep a few dings happen.

*Ding* [New Creature Identified - Blue wolf]

*Ding* [Combat Skill Unlocked - Spear]

*Ding* [New Items Identified - Pink Aspen tree, Pink Aspen Powder]

I will have to check those out in the morning but I can't keep my eyes open. My eyes close as darkness takes over my exhausted and sore body.
