The two of them went over their plains for the battle. Both of them agreed that the approach, of starting with assassination, and later changing to a head on confronation, if things went sounth was the best choice.
But there was something that wasn't that easy for them to agree on, and that was obviously Helios's choice of taking both weapons.
"Helios I know that you believe this is the correct choice, but however I look at this, it just seems like a choice that will just lead to us both dying."
"Is it really that bad?" Helios asked not willing to back down
"Yes! One wrong move, can easily result in our position being revealed. And even if I get your idea, I still feel like just taking the sword alone would be enough."
"Why not the spear?"
"Because we are doing an assassination, slowly picking off everyone. And besides, even with a spear you won't be able to do much against trained soldiers."
While Helios perfectly understood Jack's reasons for worrying, he still didn't want to abandon his 'magnificent' idea.
"I'm still doing it."
With the discussion about Helios's weapon choice ending, and them agreeing to slowly pick off everyone only one question remained.
"So what do we do with that commander."
Helios asked Jack, hoping he would have an answer for it.
"So you also figured out that something isn't right. If their commander really was the one that opened the barrier we'd be in big trouble."
"Could it have been someone else you think."
"I don't know. I don't know who would have the power to open the barrier in general. For now its best if we approach with caution, even if we want to believe that the barrier's state worsened enough to be passable to this extent in the hour that we've been away, it is still best to be ready for the worst."
With all points tackled, the two of them was ready to set off to begin their operation. Their first destionation was the tall grass surrounding the village, that's where most of the enemies were and where they were most hidden.
Before setting off they had concluded that it would be best to enter the tall grass from the two opposite side of the village, so they wouldn't accidentally attack, or even kill each other.
The two said their goodbyes and headed to their respective patch of tall grass.
Helios arriving, took the plunge, and entered the unkept overgrown environment, and though he wasn't a fan of getting bitten by whatever bugs lied in there, to say the least that was not his main concern.
Helios made his way through the grass, looking for any signs light source nearby which would show him where his potential victims would be.
Soon he indeed caught his first glace of light, and with it the sound of human chatter. It wasn't too loud, but he could tell that the people invading were not the least bit worried about the village residents strength, clearly thinking that this would be a simple massacre and nothing more. But they did not know, that not far from them stood one of the only two sources of danger in this small village, Helios.
Following his strategy Helios slowly lowered the spear in his hand and reached for the sword on his back.
Next would be a simple step, get behind them and slowly pick them off. From what he could gather there were about four people in that batch.
Soon he got behind them, and then he started approaching them from behind.Luckily for him, he was soon able to catch sight of someone lagging behind. It was a silent young man, from what he could gather a clear outcast from his group. This poor man would be Helios's first victim.
Sneaking up behind him Helios tried to replicate what he had seen before in movies. Covering his victim's mouth and cutting his throat with a quick motion. But before he could do it, the young man was already turning around, clearly Helios's wasn't as sneaky as he had thought and was noticed, but he was able to redeem his mishap. He quickly ran to the man and did as he had practiced in his head, cutting the man's throat in a single second.
The result? The soldier died, though thanks to Helios's rushed work he did not do so instantly, and the man suffered for a few second till Helios could no longer feel resistance.
Helios was slightly shaken by the event, clearly not being used to killing, but still the situation didn't allow for any breaks, especially because of the noise his somewhat failed assassination attempt made. While the man wasn't able to scream, the rustling of the grass was still very noticeable to the rest.
Helios slowly backed away from the body once again trying to get behind the quickly approaching soldiers.
But to his lack of luck while changing positions he came face to face with an enemy soldier.
It wasn't the one carrying the light source since each batch seemingly had only one of those, but it was still an enemy soldier nonetheless. But only Helios knew that, the soldier couldn't see his face clearly enough to identify him as an enemy.
"Hey....you okay? You made some noise back here..."
But before he could finish saying the rest, Helios was already slashing his sword towards him.
Helios's quick attack had caught him off guard, but being a trained soldier unlike Helios he was able to dodge his attack with minimal injuries.
"We are under attack!"
The man screamed with everything he had.
Helios realising the worsening of the situation decisively chose to abandon his advantage of being concealed, and activated his only ability, sun coating on his sword.
With the added power of the sun coating, and with the man being distracted for a second Helios was finally able to deliver a fatal wound.
The man screamed in agony, as Helios left the scene of his crime, and while doing so he deactivated his sun coating, but it was already too late, thanks to the man screaming and Helios's sword emitting light for a few seconds, the incoming soldiers were able to quickly find the place where the fight had went down.
Helios was caught in an awkward position, seeing as even more lights were closing in on his position, he knew that he was in big trouble. Even more people have come, to see the commotion than what was in the small batch before, he wouldn't be able to handle what was to come.
Helios quickly thought of something, he would lie down and hope he wouldn't be noticed. Of course this was technically suicide, were he to be noticed, but trying to go up against this many people head on wasn't any better either.
Helios hoped that doing this would allow him to stay alive, and the soldiers would just pass by him.
With that Helios went ahead distanced himself in the direction where the lights were the furthest and layed down on his back.
As the sounds of footsteps got closer he could feel his heart beating out of his chest, but soon the sounds grew distant once more.
Luckily it seems the soldiers just narrowly missed him and now were all grouped up in one place, near the gravely injured soldier.
Helios knew that he got lucky, but he wasn't sure where he should go from here.
Should he search for other detached groups? Should he attempt to group up with Jack? Or should he just flee from here, and save his own skin? No! None of those sounded right to Helios, instead he had a dumb, but interesting idea.
He will set fire to the tall grass in a circle around the grouped up soldiers, he would do it quickly and then he would flee and wait.
While he wasn't sure it would be able to kill any of them, he hoped it would atleast wound the soldiers enough for him to easily finish them off later on.
With his plan in mind Helios quickly approached the group, and once he was an appropriate distance away from them, he lit his sword and started running.
Helios quickly ran a circle around the soldiers before they could notice his presence. This was thanks to them all being distracted by their gravely wounded comrade.
As Helios finished his lap around them, he quickly retreated further from that group.
From a distance he could hear their cries as they burned in the flames, he knew it would be enough to kill many or any of them, their cries for help still filled Helios with a sense of accomplishment in that moment.
But just as Helios was ready to praise himself, he realised something. He has completly forgotten where he had put his spear.
'Guess Jack was right, it was a shit strategy.'
Helios's thoughts were interrupted by the sounds of battle. Being curious about the source he followed it.
It was Jack, fighting against a giant man wielding a greataxe. The man had a large beard and a somewhat long hair, he looked like one of those stereotypical warriors one would sometimes see on TV.
The terrain around their battle was completely barren as if it has been burned down, but neither parties involved showed any signs of getting burned.
'It seems Jack got done with his half of the soldiers and quickly went to tackle the commander'
But Helios was surprised, because despite his expectations the two were actually evenly matched.
'Guess the commander wasn't that strong, it was needless to worry.'
At that moment the ground started shaking and rocks stared shooting out of it. Their target being Jack.
'Did the commander just use his abilities?'
In the next moment as if to retaliate aganst the oncoming barrage of rocks, a bright flash of light came from Jack's direction.
Suddenly Jack grew a pair of flaming wings and evaporated the incoming rocks.
Jack has just activated his Phoenix abilities
