Chapter 3 - Truck

The car I was in felt like a cold coffin. I don't have anything else to do rather wait. Peeking outside Chloe's school. By exactly four in the afternoon, the bell finally rang that's when I decided to wait outside the vehicle.

Countless students walked out. Some are screechy. And between these crowd, there I saw Chloe approaching my direction with smile. She ran and hugged me by which I gladly returned with a tighter one.

"Uncle Tobi!"

"How's school?"

"It's fine!" She let herself on the car by the shotgun seat.

In the middle of the road, her eyes were pinned toward the small TV in the car. Heroes were seen fighting off criminals, and other entities on live.

Chloe's eyes were still fixated on the screen when she decides to asks me, "Uncle? What does it feel to become a superhero?"

I scoffed. "It's never as exciting as you think, Chloe."

"Really? But you've been a superhero before, right? Why did you become like them if it's really not that exciting?"

"I just needed work. Unfortunately, I'm not like your smart dad who can do things he wants."

"No. Dad's dumb."

Natawa ako. "Really? How?"

She crossed both her arms before answering, "Last year. He forgot my birthday. Then weeks ago, he said we're going to have a movie marathon because I aced my test. But he came home late. I even slept by the living room couch just waiting for him and you know what he told me?"

"What?"

"He said he forgot our plan that day that's why he stayed late in the company office, can you believe that?"

"You should just understand your dad."

I can feel her slitted eyes staring at me. "I know. But. I don't have friends at school."

"You're a cheerful kid. I wonder why you don't have one just by your behavior."

"I'm introvert." She replied, looking straight on the road.

I laughed, that's when she looked at me again. "Impossible." I commented.

"Are you laughing at me?"

I took a short glance at her, smiling, "Okay. Sorry."

Then out of nowhere, a half meter wide brick, suddenly flew from the sky and hits the front side of our car. Chloe shouted as the impact of the brick shook both of us inside.

I lost control of the car, as different vehicles crashed to us continuously. Chloe started crying in panic. Cars honking everywhere. I felt the dizziness like death's already on sight. That was dangerous!

We were stopped in the middle of the busy highway. And after a short while. I caught a glimpse of a truck, running toward our direction in an uncontrollable speed. Even if the driver could pull the break, the impact could still kill us both.

"Uncle!"

"Chloe, take off your seatbelt! Quick!" I immediately ordered in which she obeyed with trembling hands.

The truck's already close and honking louder by the second.

"No! It's stucked!" Chloe cried out.

I gritted my teeth. There's no time!

"Let me do it!" With all the force I got. I pulled it out with all my strength along with my panicking heart. But the truck's already two to three meters away before it could crash through us.

"Uncle!" Chloe shouted in fear, pointing to the loud noise created by the approaching truck.

When I mindlessly pushed the air toward it and shockingly, the door of our car flew out, as the truck was stopped, like it just hit an invisible wall or something.

It's front part bursted and bended because of an unseen impact.

I looked at my palm, completely dumbfounded. I was breathing heavily as I also looked back at Chloe. "Are you okay?"

She panicked too much. Making her lose her consciousness on the spot. "Chloe? Chloe! Oh, thank God, she's breathing." I hugged her as my heart's still pounding loudly. "I'm sorry. This won't happen again. I promise."

The driver of that truck, fell down the road as he went out the smoking vehicle. Couldn't stand up for a short while.

Then with a frowning look, he peeked inside us. "Are you okay, mister?"

"We are."

He sighed in relief. Cupping his forehead before sitting down on the road again.

Inside the hospital hallway. I couldn't stop tapping my feet as I waited for the doctor's response on Chloe's condition.

That incident never left my head not for a short second at all. I am staring at my palm, thinking of what just happened on that road.

It's not just a dream. Or even a hallucination. Of course I'm not influenced with drugs either. So that thing where I stopped the truck from crashing to us, I did that.

Does that mean, my powers came back?

No way it did. But the truck.

Honestly, I don't know what to feel. But obviously, a part of me was happy because without it; I don't know if Chloe would survive that.

But there's no point thinking about it. I just need to know it myself.

I stood up and searched for a vending machine nearby. After a couple of minutes, I walked back to the bench across the room where Chloe is.

I heaved a sigh first. I drank some of it before releasing the can from my grip, then when it's inches apart on the floor, I pushed my mind to bring my power back.

And the can stops midair.

My eyed widened of my discovery. I am completely stunned while pulling the can back to my hand without moving a single finger.

My eyes widened in disbelief. I tried it again. I even tried throwing it sideways and shockingly, I can bring it back to my hand with such ease.

Incredible! But why though? Why did my power came back? I never saw or even heard a situation like this before.

Usually and naturally. Once your power disappear, it'll never comes back. It's been proven by so many people. This is actually the first time by which I witnessed my own power coming back after it left. Even my scan reports states that I'm already a normal person.

I'm actually confused.

Additionally, I can feel a huge difference compare to my telekinetic ability in the past. I have too much control of it this time than the last.

"Tobias," I immediately stood up when I saw Fin running frantically to my direction. "where the hell is my daughter?!"

"She's still under check-up, Fin."

"Which room? Tobias, I need to see her. Now!"

I pointed to the door beside us. Then I immediately blocked him when he's about to enter without thinking. "Fin. Calm down. Someone's still checking her. We need to wait."

I saw how my friend's eyes watered right infront of me. "Tobias. Tell me she's okay. Please. Tell me my daughter is okay."

I sighed with my lips pressed to each other. I held him by his both shoulders and led him by the bench. "Fin. She's fine. She just fainted by the shock. Though she had small wounds but it's not that lethal."

"Sigurado ka?"

"Well," I sat beside him. "I'm not a doctor so I don't know for sure."

"Oh God."

Then minutes later. A nurse came out of the room and let both of us in.

Fortunately. My hunch was right. Chloe's fine and will be in a perfect shape again in just a few weeks of recovery. It solely depends on her on how she'll fight her way back from this trauma.
