Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Monster Hunter Astarte

If this were a journey to the world of Monster Hunter, then it would be considered an escape from the cesspool. But I have only heard that the warp can travel through time, but I have never heard that the warp can travel to another universe.

Considering who exactly threw him from the warp to this planet, Leon began to seriously consider the possibility that the Emperor had played Monster Hunter 30,000 years ago.

Seriously, has GW ever paid Capcom any copyright fees for Supreme Evil God?

Leon hadn't come back to his senses yet, but his action of calling out the monster's name attracted Ademir's attention. He asked Leon, "Tigrex? Is this its academic name? Is this kind of monster common outside now?"

"No, I just know a thing or two." Leon denied, "How many times have you dealt with this monster? What is his attack method?"

"Fifteen times. Its attack methods are very monotonous, either throwing rocks or crawling and ramming at high speed with a roar, but its destructive power is quite amazing. And its defense is strong. Although the grenade can penetrate it, it cannot cause enough damage. On the contrary, it will stimulate its ferocity. Only shooting at its vital points, such as the eyes, can make it dodge slightly."

Tigrex...

Well, it's an authentic thing.

"Have you never tried weapons other than grenade launchers? Such as plasma weapons?" Leon raised the ion gun in his hand.

"That's a must."

Leon shrugged, signaled the two Astartes who were dragging him to slow down, and then began to charge the plasma pistol in his hand.

In the distance, the Tigrex was fighting with the two teams that had been separated to attract its attention.

Taking advantage of the pause after the Tigrex spun and swung its tail, Leon released the trigger in his hand. The fully charged plasma muzzle burst out a blue flame, and a ball of high-temperature plasma with electric current hit the back of the Tigrex straight.

With just one shot, it howled in pain. A noticeable big hole was burned on the place where it was hit by the plasma weapon, as if a large piece of flesh and blood was directly dug out, and blood was oozing out from under the charred scales.

Taking advantage of this opportunity, the team that was fighting with the Tigrex successfully withdrew from the battle. And Ademir and the two Space Marines who were holding Leon looked at him in surprise, obviously not expecting that a single plasma shot could achieve such a great result.

But compared to the three people's surprise, Leon, who knew that it was weak to thunder, was not so satisfied.

He put the plasma pistol in his hand and checked it repeatedly, muttering: "Strange, the power of the plasma pistol produced by Ryza is so small..."

A specialty of Ryza that specializes in plasma weapons.

"Should we press on and fire a few more shots?" Ademir suggested.

"No, if the fully charged plasma pistol only has this much killing power, then it will not be able to kill the Tigrex before the plasma pistol overheats. Instead, the enraged beast will take the opportunity to close the distance. If we use other weapons, it will not be as effective."

Leon rejected Ademir's proposal. He knew that the dragon was strong, and he didn't think that he could kill it by cutting a few more holes in it.

Even if he could kill it, the ion pistol that couldn't be cooled before the dragon escaped couldn't give it the final blow: "Retreat first, we need to save some ammunition, and we'll deal with the rest later."

Facing Leon's professionalism, none of Ademir's group questioned his decision. While the dragon was still recovering, they had crossed the open area and retreated to the next jungle.

After confirming that the dragon could not catch up, Leon repaired his legs here. After regaining his ability to walk, he followed the Astartes and walked for nearly 20 minutes before arriving at the temporary residence of the Astartes.

Leon looked at the natural cave in front of him and said, "So, you live in a place like this?"

"We move around a lot, so there's no need to put too much effort into our homes, as long as we choose a good location," Ademir replied. "But there are still some basic renovations inside."

"That's not what I meant. Let me put it another way. How did you get to this planet? If there is a crashed warship, generally speaking, you would use the wreckage as a base, live near the wreckage, and explore the outside world, right?" Leon asked, "You are acting like cavemen here. Could it be that you were thrown to this planet one by one by the warp?"

Ademir still had no expression on his face, but Leon could see a hint of sadness in him.

He did not answer Leon's question, but instead mentioned other aspects: "If we can reach a cooperation, you will naturally know these issues in the future. What is important now is to prove your ability as a tech-priest, and let us see if you are worthy of cooperation."

"That's right." Leon was ready to show off his skills: "How do you want to verify it?"

"Help us maintain our weapons and equipment first. I will evaluate your level based on your maintenance work." Ademir replied, "Although you look like a geneticist who studies biology from the way you identify beasts, we need engiseers who are good at maintenance and manufacturing. I hope your level in this area is not too bad."

Leon raised his eyebrows, but he was too lazy to explain that he was a versatile person with an otherworldly power: "Where can we go to repair it? We can't do it without basic materials."

"We have set up a basic studio in the cave. I have already sent someone in to sort out some... less necessary things. Follow me and I will take you there. You cannot move around here on your own until we are sure that we can reach a cooperation."

Seeing that these people also had their little secrets, Leon naturally chose to understand. He followed Ademir into the cave. Although he could not see any privacy, the more than 50 Astartes who came in and out one after another gave Leon a basic judgment of their total number.

The Astartes were not enthusiastic about outsiders like Leon, and many of them even showed blatant suspicion in their eyes, but Ademir had a lot of prestige among them, so no one stood up to stop or question his decision. Not long after, Ademir took Leon to a relatively dry cave compartment, which was stacked with their equipment and also served as a weapons storage room.

Leon keenly noticed that on a simple stone table was a functioning power backpack with a mechanical arm. It was the equipment of a techmarine.

"Where is your techmarinet? Where did he go?" Leon asked.

"He died." Ademir lowered his eyes. "It was a long time ago. At that time, we faced a green lizard-like monster with the ability to fly. Its venom glands were quite developed, and it could spit fire. We were in danger when fighting against the monster due to our lack of equipment. I was even almost bitten to death by the monster when it swooped down from the sky."

"But in the critical moment, Sergeant Hank stepped forward. He left his backpack behind, held the last melta bomb of our company, rushed to the diving monster, and detonated the bomb, breaking the monster's tail. The seriously injured and unbalanced monster could only fight with us on the ground, and was eventually killed by us."

"...No offense, he made a great sacrifice."

"He sacrificed himself for the future of our brothers. I can only live up to his sacrifice by leading them out of this desperate situation." Ademir shook his head. He picked up a bolt rifle from the weapon rack beside him and handed it to Leon. "I have always missed him, but we have to face the present. Let me see if you have the ability to replace him and complete his unfinished responsibilities - or even do better than him."
