Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Jumping into Cooperation

Leon took the bolt rifle. With his sharp eyesight, he recognized it as a Phobos bolt rifle.

The original design of the Legendary Bolter was completed by the Emperor himself, and the Phobos was the first hand-produced bolter rifle after the cooperation between the Mechanicum of Mars and the Emperor.

Now, more than 1,500 years have passed since the Great Crusade began in 798 M30, and the existing Phobos models have become holy objects worshiped by various chapters. But here, on a planet that has been isolated for who knows how many years, Leon saw such a weapon in the hands of these Space Marines who didn't even have power armor to wear.

Although it had long been in tatters due to a lack of maintenance, it also made Leon wonder about the true identity of these people.

Although he had some doubts in his heart, Leon was still intense in the maintenance work.

He first put on special gloves to prevent his soulless characteristics from harming the machine spirit on the gun, and then took the grenade gun handed over by Ademir.

He pulled the bolt to check it, but he didn't expect that this action would cause the gun to shatter into pieces.

Looking at the parts scattered all over the floor, Leon was a little confused, but he soon realized that the gun had reached its limit due to overuse and lack of maintenance.

Although it was barely able to maintain its original state with the help of its loyal machine spirit, just like a seriously ill person who is not suitable for surgery due to his weak body, the attempt to dismantle and repair the rifle would cause the machine spirit to lose its integrity, and the service life of the gun without the machine sprit would come to an end.

The explosive rifle is like the AK-47, which is simple, practical, and easy to maintain.

That is why it has become the most commonly used weapon among Space Marines.

If this weapon breaks without a machine spirit, how long has it been since it was maintained? A thousand years?

But regardless of the reason, as a tech-priest who came to maintain the weapon, it was somewhat embarrassing to see the weapon shattered on the ground as soon as he got it.

Leon touched his nose awkwardly and looked at Ademir, but found that although he frowned, he was not surprised. He knew the conditions of the weapon.

Ademir picked up another chainsaw sword from the weapon rack that was in good condition but had many cracks on the chainsaw, and motioned for Leon to maintain it.

Leon took it and looked at it. Wow, it was a Mark IV Thunder Blade Chainsword. Compared to the Phobos Bolt Rifle, this was even the standard equipment used since the Terra Unification War.

Leon didn't say much, just started to maintain it. The structure of a melee weapon is always simpler and more durable than a bolt gun. This chainsaw sword, which had been weathered and roughly repaired by someone who didn't understand the mechanics, did not fall apart because of Leon's disassembly.

Leon used the basic maintenance tools in his mechanical backpack to re-polish the single-molecule edge of the chainsaw sword, and recruited Amidel to take a few chainsaw swords that were no longer usable, disassemble them into materials, and use these materials to repair the gaps on the chainsaw swords. In just ten minutes, Leon had completed the maintenance of the chainsaw sword.

He pressed the button, and the new chainsaw sword began to hum with vigor again.

Leon handed the chainsaw sword to Ademir. He waved it twice and was equally satisfied with Leon's work results, but he still had a question: "In the past, the Tech-priests, including Sergeant Hank, had to apply holy oil and recite the Mechanicum prayer when maintaining their equipment. Don't you need it?"

"You mean the Mechanicus's Hymn?" Leon knew what the layman Ademir was referring to, but he didn't care.

In the magical world of Warhammer 40K, hymns, prayers, and aromatic holy oils all have realistic mystical effects. In addition to soothing the machine spirits, they can also prevent the corrosion of weapons and equipment by the warp and the invasion of electronic demons.

But as a blank, Leon is naturally not able to coexist with these unnatural phenomena. Unless he wants to pretend in front of his fellow Mechanicus, these rituals have no meaning to him.

So he explained to Ademir: "I prefer science and pragmatism, so I don't need these."

This sentence seemed to move Ademir. He nodded in approval: "Yes, scientific methods are our greatest help. Excellent work, Tech-Priest."

"Anything else that needs maintenance?" Leon was a little envious of the Phobos-type bolt rifles that could only be seen in the relic warehouses of various regiments. "Your bolt rifles are all badly worn, but I should be able to repair four...two of them."

"No, focusing on melee weapons is the biggest help for us. The beasts outside have an abnormal resistance to long-range firearms. The damage caused by grenade launchers is minimal to those beasts. Often, only melee can cause effective damage to them." Ademir denied Leon's request.

"Melee only?" Leon asked.

"No, some long-range cold weapons are also fine, but long-range hot weapons can only play a diversionary role. When Sergeant Hank died, we originally thought that the hot melt bomb would be able to kill the monster, but in fact, it only blew off the tail, and finally, the problem was solved using close combat. In terms of hot weapons alone, your ion pistol is already the most effective shooting I have ever seen."

"No wonder the fully charged ion pistol produced by Stygies VIII can only make a hole under the restraining effect..."

"So I only need to help you maintain your melee weapons in the future?"

Ademir did not comment. He had higher expectations for Leon's abilities: "Melee weapons are the most important. If you can do more, we will naturally give you more trust and honesty. But before that, I have to take you to another place."

"Where?"

"Our Council Room."

Ademir led Leon into another side room in the cave, where three people were waiting for them. Leon knew one of them. He was Astarte, who had informed Ademir of the arrival of the beast.

He was also the leader of a team that contained the Tigrex. Seeing Leon coming in, he nodded slightly to Leon.

"These are our members of parliament. Here, any decision is discussed and implemented by the four of us."

Ademir first introduced the person Leon knew: "Adjutant Ajax, he is also the company's pharmacist. If you want to learn about the biological knowledge on this planet, you can go to him. Sergeant Arlo was the instructor of all our recruits. No one dares to compare with him in swordsmanship. Finally, Lieutenant Dwayne is the authority in commanding the team's actions."

"As for me, Ademir. I was once the champion of this company, and now I am elected by everyone to serve as the temporary commander-in-chief here."

After the introduction, Ademir motioned for Leon to sit down, and he strode to the front of the stage for the meeting:

"I have let Ajax tell you the details. After a long wait, a spaceship crashed on this isolated planet. The survivor is the tech-priest in front of us - Leon. I have tested Leon's professional ability, and the results are generally satisfactory. I have decided to cooperate with Leon and let him be responsible for the maintenance of our various weapons and equipment."

"If that's all, there's no need to discuss this with us." Lieutenant Dwayne pointed out the problem directly: "Just tell me, Ademir, why did you call me back to be in charge of hunting?"

"Now we have the help of a professional tech-priest. I think this is an opportunity, perhaps the only opportunity." Ademir put his hands on the table and looked around at everyone seriously: "I decided to let the tech-priest take charge and awaken the captain!"
