Chapter 71 - Chapter 23: The Laboratory

As Colin was about to arrive home, he suddenly stopped in his tracks. He carefully tidied his clothes and brushed the dust off his body. He had tried his best to protect his face during the beating. Hopefully, his mother wouldn't notice...

Colin didn't want to cause her any trouble. She had already worked hard enough.

However, his self - assumed flawless disguise couldn't deceive the landlady at all, because after all, the person who knew him best in the world was still his mother.

She only glanced at Colin as he entered the house, then rushed over to him in a hurry. She crouched down and looked at her child with concern.

Colin was being coy and didn't want her to find out, but she quickly spotted the bruises from the beating!

Her child had been beaten!

The landlady glared at Horne and his group. They had brought her son back, so it was very likely that they were the ones who had beaten him!

The angry mother's gaze made Horne inexplicably flustered. No one had ever looked at him like this before. Enoch exaggeratedly raised his hands and said, "It wasn't us who beat your son! Two men who run a hotel did it. Come to think of it, you should even thank us for saving him and giving those two guys a lesson."

Colin also nodded in agreement.

Only then did she stand up and bowed repeatedly to Horne and the others, apologizing and expressing her gratitude.

After a round of greetings, Horne and his group stayed again. Moreover, because they were going to stay for a long time, their room rates were even cheaper.

Maybe it was also because they had saved her child? Saving some money was always a happy thing.

...

After settling Horne and the others, the landlady went to Colin's room. She didn't say a word, just hugged him and burst into tears.

After tidying himself up, Horne was about to come down to find the landlady. He followed the landlady's scent to Colin's room. Just as he was about to knock on the door, he heard faint sobs coming from inside.

He let out a long sigh, turned around and left. It was better not to disturb them at this time.

Even without bearing the original sin of being a wild witch, there were still people in the ordinary world living in great pain!

But these were things that every wild witch had been enduring since their awakening!

Some people chose to endure silently, but Horne decided to move forward in the pain and create an era where wild witches could gain equal status!

He went to Ian Parker's room. During this time, he wanted to ask him some questions. Colin was hiding something from him!

Ian was meditating in the room. He had already condensed the Sea of Magic and was trying to enter the Sea of Consciousness.

Apart from Enoch and Annie, he was making the fastest progress.

Horne sat opposite him and waited for him to finish meditating.

He wouldn't have to wait long because Ian must have known that he had come. With that unreasonable perception ability, he could sense the outside world's movements even in meditation.

After a while, Ian opened his eyes and said to Horne with a smile, "What do you want to ask me?"

"I do have something to ask you, about Colin. Didn't you say last time that there was nothing strange?"

"There really isn't anything strange," Ian said to Horne with a surprised look on his face. "Did you come specifically to ask this?"

"No, you looked at that child very intently. What did you discover?"

Horne was very certain that Ian's look when looking at that child was very strange.

"Alright, alright. Since you've come to ask, I'll tell you. I originally planned to observe clearly before telling you."

Ian said helplessly. He didn't want Horne to know about this when he still knew nothing.

"Observe clearly?" Horne frowned and asked. With his perception, what couldn't he observe clearly?

"He really has no problem. I've used all the observation methods I could, but I haven't found anything abnormal."

Seeing that Horne was listening attentively, Ian continued, "But having no problem is the biggest problem. I don't know why, but I always have an indescribable strange feeling about him."

"What kind of feeling?" Horne asked curiously. He thought that the child seemed very normal.

"I can't put it into words. I actually don't know what the feeling is. I just think it's strange. So I wanted to observe clearly before telling you all."

"Could it be that you're overthinking? If you can't find anything wrong, doesn't it mean that he has no problem?" Horne wondered if Ian was thinking too much.

"I hope so..." Ian Parker shook his head and said.

"Just as I can sense people's emotions while you can't, there are also things that I can't sense. But there's no doubt that my strange feeling about that child definitely exists."

Horne left Ian's room, shaking his head. The information he got here was that this child was different from others. As for how he was different?

He didn't know! But this was already enough for Horne to pay more attention to that child on a daily basis.

At this time, the landlady had wiped away her tears and walked out of Colin's room, returning to her former charming self.

"Landlady, I've been looking for you for a while. I have something to talk to you about."

Horne said to the landlady with a smile. He said he had been looking for a while to let the landlady know that he hadn't heard her crying.

He understood that people who had always persevered on their own didn't like others to know about their vulnerability.

"May I ask if you have a basement for rent? If so, I'd like to rent one."

The landlady was stunned for a moment. Why would a guest want to rent a basement in a hotel? Didn't people usually prefer rooms with better lighting?

"There is a basement, but it hasn't been cleaned for a long time. May I ask what you want to use the basement for? I also have other cheap rooms here."

Horne forced a smile and said, "I can afford to pay. I'll still keep renting my current room. I have other uses for the basement."

"Other uses?" The landlady looked at Horne with a puzzled expression on her face.

Hehe!

Horne laughed twice, reached behind his back, and forcefully pulled out an iron saw nearly a meter long!

He grinned evilly as he took out the saw, scaring the landlady so much that she almost screamed. She thought this guy was going to do something terrible to her!

Seeing that the landlady was frightened, Horne said helplessly:

"Landlady, actually, I'm a carpenter..."

Since he got this eye - patch, he had been mistaken for a bad guy too many times. He used to be quite popular before. So Horne added another mark against the church in his heart.

"I need to carve some wood sculptures to make money, but I can't be disturbed during the process, and it will also make a lot of noise."

"The noise is okay. We don't mind," the landlady waved her hand and said. It was just noise. What was the big deal?

"But my companions mind! If it's inconvenient for you, I can clean it myself." Horne persuaded the landlady.

Hearing what Horne said, the landlady felt a bit embarrassed. "It's convenient, of course it's convenient. As long as you don't mind the poor environment there."

"Of course I don't mind. As long as it's a basement."

Horne said with a smile.

He got the basement!

Now he had a laboratory!
