At six o'clock in the evening, she was sent to the door of the hall. As the secretary called someone, the driver got out of the car and opened the door. "Miss Green, you can enter now." She stepped out of the car carefully. After she got her balance, she looked up and saw a pair of stunning eyes.
Robert had gotten out of his car when he received a phone call and saw her get out as soon as he got close. She usually wore a t-shirt and jeans, looking like an ordinary college student. But this is the first time she's wearing a dress that he had asked someone to prepare for her, and he was already amazed. He had always felt that she was wearing the wrong clothes. She had successfully covered all of her strengths with those clothes. Seeing the men passing by turn back to look at her from time to time, Robert recovered from his shock and walked forward with a cold expression.
Emma was embarrassed for a moment. Seeing his gaze land on her, she naturally covered her chest with her hands. "Isn't it very awkward?" It was clearly very beautiful, but he did not feel happy. Her clothes were too revealing. Didn't they see her figure? Although he knew exactly how good her figure was, he still felt inexplicably unhappy in his heart. "This dress is not suitable for you at all." Emma scowled. She did not understand this man. Was he trying to hurt her? He extended his arm and said in a deep voice, "Hold my arm."
She was not happy. She wrapped her arm around his arm. As she followed him inside, she said, "Can you slow down a little bit? I've never worn such high heels before. The carpet is too soft. I feel like I'm going to fall." "Then why are you still wearing high heels?" "Your secretary picked this out for me. She said you asked her to dress me up nicely." He turned his head to look at her again. "It turns out that you're not pretty at all." "I already know, okay? So don't say anymore." She was a bit angry. She was dressed up like this, at his request, only to be teased by him. He brought her to the third floor. At the entrance of the banquet hall, he registered the names of two people and led her in.
The moment they appeared, they immediately attracted the attention of all the men and women present. The simple terms "talented man" and "beautiful woman" were not strong enough to describe the compatibility between them at this moment. His gaze swept around the room. When he saw the stunned gazes of the men looking at her, he felt even more annoyed. He wanted to take off his suit and hide her. And she was just scared silly. "No, didn't you say that it was a cocktail party? Why are there so many people?" "For me, this is a cocktail party."
As he walked forward, her footsteps slowed until she did not move. She was dragged by him until she staggered a bit. He turned around and asked worriedly, "What's wrong with you?" "It's fine. I've never been to a party this big. I was scared." She was embarrassed for a moment and held his arm tightly. He smiled and inexplicably wanted to laugh. Everything that came out of her mouth was so natural. Robert said, "Cover your chest. You're starting to fall out." She looked at him sideways. He could not be serious. However, she tried to cover herself and still look natural.
They took a few more steps. Just as he was about to pick up a wine glass, she suddenly stopped beside him. Her grip on his arm became tighter and tighter. Her nails pinched his flesh, and he felt a bit of pain. He looked at her. But she was staring off at his left side, not moving at all. He followed her line of sight and looked forward. Only then did he realize that she was looking at the president of the Meyer Group of Industries, William Meyer, who was sitting in a wheelchair and chatting with someone.
"You know him?" Seeing William Meyer, made Robert think of Jack. She came back to her senses and realized that she had lost her composure. She shook her head and released her grip on his arm. "I don't know him." "Do you want to eat something?" "Okay." Her expression was no longer as natural as before. "Come and sit with me." He brought her to an empty table in the corner. "Sit down. What do you want to eat?" "Anything."
He called the waiter and helped her get some food. She lowered her head and ate slowly. Someone came over to greet him, and he chatted with someone. As he spoke, he lowered his head to look at her. She was secretly looking in William's direction. He frowned. She clearly knew him. There was no mistake. Someone came up to discuss some private business. He looked at her. "I'll go over and sit for a while. I'll be back in a few minutes. Don't wander around." She nodded. "Okay." After he left, she sighed. When she looked up at William again, she saw that he was also looking at her sharply. She frowned slightly and looked away to continue eating.
The more she wanted to calm down, the louder the sounds around her became. At the table behind her, a few women were discussing her and Robert. Someone said with disdain, "Where did this woman come from?" "Who knows? Did you see that? She was clinging so tightly to Mr. Erickson. She looked like she was going to hang on him." "She is too shameless. If there was no one here, she would have pounced on him." "You're right. Anyone can see that he doesn't seem to have any good feelings for her. His face is constantly cold, as if he's disgusted." "Young girls. They don't know their place just because they have a bit of beauty. Mr. Erickson, is he something that an unknown little character can chase?"
Those women were talking so intensely, that they didn't notice when Robert walked past them. He glanced at the group of thoughtless women. On the other side of them, Emma's hand holding her fork was shaking. Such a group was always disgusting, but she knew how it felt firsthand. It was like seeing Ilsa and her mother's hateful faces. But being discussed like this by strangers, it wasn't a lie that she was upset. She put down her knife and fork and got up to leave this awful place.
But at that same moment, graceful music started playing, and people started dancing on the dance floor. Robert walked up to her and blocked her way. He put his hand on her waist naturally and looked at her with a loving smile. "Wait. Would you like to dance with me?" He led her past the other table. He spoke clearly, and the women heard him. Everyone kept quiet and looked at the two of them. She was surprised. Dancing? What a joke. "I don't know how to dance." "Then learn, I'll teach you." As he spoke, he helped put her hands around his neck, while his hands wrapped around her waist.
He looked at her and tried to calm her. "I have a great way to help you learn to dance quickly. In a moment, you'll step on my foot, and I will kiss you just once." "What..." She looked at him in a daze. What kind of crazy drug was he smoking? She was wearing high heels and could barely walk. This stance made her put almost all of her weight on him. He easily brought her to the center of the dance floor. Their dancing became the focus of everyone's attention. She was way too nervous, that was why she stepped on him the moment she took a step left, and then right with him. But he kept his promise. Before she could react, he lowered his head and kissed her lips.
It was quiet all around, and Emma could not hear anything. She could not hear the music, nor any chatter. She could only feel that his lips were warm and tasted like wine. And he seemed to be unable to stop himself from this kiss. He originally thought that the last time he fell in love with her lips was because he never had a woman like her. He suddenly, really kissed her, unable to control himself. But this time, he had no idea why.
All through the dance, until she was dragged off the dance floor, her mind was in a daze. The gazes that followed her felt heavy against her body, but she was not in the mood to pay attention to them. She just didn't understand why he did that. Knowing that William Meyer was still here, she suddenly felt embarrassed. She looked towards the corner where he was, but he must have left. She did not see him, but saw Jack where William had been. He looked at her with disappointment. Her heart tightened, and she felt ashamed. A moment later, Jack turned around and left.
Emma exhaled and felt her face redden with embarrassment. Robert had seen her every move, and he clearly saw her anxiety and uneasiness. He also saw Jack's expression. He smiled. Clearly, Emma had some kind of secret with the Meyer family. "Miss Green, you don't look very good. Feeling a little breathless?" She glared at him with resentment. "Why did you do that?" "What? Kiss you? I told you before, that's the rule for teaching you how to dance." "I didn't say I wanted to learn how to dance." "But you followed me to the dance floor." "I..." Damn it, she really wanted to take off this ridiculous pair of shoes.
She sighed. "Forget it, I'm not going to argue with you about things that have already happened and can't be reversed. I'm a little tired and want to go back." "It just so happens that I'm tired too. Let's go together." He put his arm around her waist and walked out. She struggled, wanting space between them. He smiled. "If you don't want me to carry you out over my shoulder, you'd better behave yourself." She immediately stopped. He naturally walked them through the door. "Why are you so domineering?" "It can't be helped, I've been dominating since I was young." "That's why people warned me about you."
"What does it have to do with me if others say I'm good or bad?" He made a good point. What was important was whether she was good or bad. His words inexplicably fit her heart. The two of them came out of the banquet hall and turned the corner. They saw Jack, who was standing by the window and smoking. She stopped in her tracks. Jack extinguished the cigarette. She lowered her head and walked to the elevator with Robert as if she did not see him. She quickly pressed the button to go down.
But, the elevator dropped slowly, arriving from the 26th floor. Jack stood by the window for a moment, then walked over. Emma saw this out of the corner of her eye and got nervous. She prayed her brother would pretend he didn't know her and act like she was anyone else. But... things didn't go as she wished. Jack stopped beside her. "Emma, come with me." He took her wrist and turned around to leave. Emma walked two steps to his side. But before she could take another step, her other hand was taken by Robert. "President Jack Meyer, are you trying to steal my girlfriend, right in front of me? Do you think I'm blind?"
